A Word on Behalf of Sarah Palin
In the interest of fairness, I just want to offer a few words of support for Sarah Palin as the GOP presidential candidate in 2012. I think sometimes that we Dems are too quick to condemn Palin as an unmitigated, unqualified, nincompoop-headed, GOP "It" girl whose only claim to non-obscurity rests in her ability to reflect photons. But the truth may not be that obvious.

I would argue that Palin is a perfect candidate for the GOP.

First, she represents GOP values in every dimension. Certainly she has the intellectual firepower to be a leader in the GOP. I think that is undisputed. Class? She is as classy as anyone in the GOP. Truthful? Of course! There are few in the GOP who are more truthful than Sarah Palin. She is right up there with the best of them.

Second, I don't think anyone would say that Sarah Palin is not every bit as qualified to run the country as Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush were. She is easily their equal.

Fellow Dems, I just don't think we should let our fear of a Palin candidacy cloud our judgment of her. We should not be quick to condemn the idea as ridiculous simply because she is the candidate we fear most. She is very likely to get the GOP nomination, and there is little we can do to keep the GOP from running her in 2012. They are simply too clever not to.

And if Ms. Palin prevails as the GOP candidate but loses to Obama in the general election in 2012, I certainly believe she will be a strong opponent for us in 2016.

1. No.
The less people like her pushing their radical ideas the better.

She belongs being all "Mavericky" on Fox News.

4. And again in 2020, 2024, 2028
She can be the Republicans' Ralph Nadar!

And do to them what Nadar did to Al Gore. Works for me.

9. Whoa! You just brought my brain to a screeching halt.
But then, of course he will, because every president seeks reelection.

I wonder when was the last time a first term president did NOT seek reelection.

6. No, there are many in the GOP more classy than she......
.... of course none of them are younger than 60.

Orrin Hatch comes to mind. The Republican of 20 years ago and the Republican of today are two completely different beasts.

I do think that "blithering idiot" would have been well-used in there somewhere, though.

13. She certainly does represent what remains of the republican party.
Sarah Palin' IS the GOP.

Which is why the GOP IS only 18% of the population now.
