I've been out all day, but it doesn't seem cspan was covering it, unless they're all chowing down now.

Thanks!

3. Thanks. Not cspan 1 at all? That's bizarre, since their ratings must
have been through the roof after the last Saturday session.

While CSpan(1) carries the House sessions

8. Right now they are debating it.
And the Repubs are basically saying if this passes, the world will end. Mike Enzi(R)-WY talked about how people got up today "birds singing, children on soccer fields" without knowing the bomb of healthcare about to hit them.

10. So the Dems have the vote for cloture....yes? Then what?
They vote for cloture tonight, which cuts off all further debate. Are they then going to immediately go for a vote on the Senate Health Care Reform Bill? And I believe I heard they will only need 51 votes. Is that correct?

Thanks for helping me to understand the process.

11. Correct. Sort of. I don't think they will vote on passing the bill tonight.
That should happen next week. Then it goes to conference with the House. Then the House votes on it and sends it to the Senate.

That's when the fireworks really start. The Dems will need 60 votes again to stop debate on the conference committee bill.

Good luck with that one.

17. It will only happen if we don't get cloture on the compromise bill.
This I'm a little fuzzy on.

It has to become a budgetary bill for that to happen. Harry Ried has to make that decision and he has stated that will not happen. You can only pass certain parts of the bill that way.

So, to answer your question, if we do not get the cloture vote on the compromise bill call Harry.

14. Actually this vote allows the debate to continue...
Which could last for weeks. Then there will be a vote for cloture of the debate. Then if there are 60 votes to stop a filibuster there will be a final vote on the bill which will likely happen in January. Then they will need to reconcile the House and Senate versions and then a final final vote. Then if passed by both chambers then it goes to President Obama for signature. Its a long tedious complicated process to get a law passed.

15. Tonight's vote is to BEGIN the debate. When they win the vote tonight with 60 votes, that means
Edited on Sat Nov-21-09 07:41 PM by jenmito
they are allowed to START debating, deciding on amendments to be put in/taken out. They won't even START, from what I heard reported, until after Thanksgiving weekend. And it will take weeks and weeks, hopefully being able to satisfy 60 Senators enough to allow the bill to come up for a vote by voting for cloture (or ending the debate and allowing a vote after that). Lieberman and Lincoln say they won't vote for cloture if there's a public option. Without 60, supposedly, for cloture, they can't GET to the final vote which needs 51.
