Venezuela's top court asked to repeal IACHR Court ruling
http://www.eluniversal.com/2011/09/26/venezuelas-top-court-asked-to-repeal-iachr-court-ruling.shtml

Venezuela's Solicitor General Carlos Escarrá requested the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) to review the ruling of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR Court), which ordered the Venezuelan government to allow former Chacao municipality mayor Leopoldo López to participate in the presidential elections to be held in 2012.

The Solicitor General handed the request to the Clerk's Office of the Constitutional Court. Escarrá expects that Venezuela's top Court endorses the decision of the Executive Office, which has chosen not to comply with the international ruling.

The information was provided by sources of the Judiciary Power.

1. Some background on this?
Is there a specific reason why Lopez would not be allowed to participate? In a free Democratic society, anyone is allowed to run.
