Public sector's construction of houses drops 35 percent
Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez Frías said on January 15 that in 2011 his government would prioritize the construction of housing solutions. A month later, he said that his Administration had decided to launch the Great Mission Housing Venezuela to make further progress in the area. Despite the announcements, house building slowed down in the first quarter of 2011.

According to data reported by the Ministry of Housing and Habitat and private developers from January to March, a total of 13,000 housing solutions were built. This represents a 21 percent fall compared to 16,500 housing units in the same period of 2010.
