At least 768 violations of international humanitarian law occurs in Colombia in 2010: ICRC

BOGOTA, April 14 (Xinhua) -- At least 768 violations of international humanitarian law occurred during 2010 in Colombia, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Thursday
Releasing its annual report, the ICRC's office in Colombia said the cases include murders, threats, disappearances and illegal land occupation, in addition to 35 new cases of massive displacement that took place primarily in the southwestern part of the South American country.
"While the situation improved in some areas, people from various departments of the country continue to suffer the consequences of actions and armed clashes," Christophe Beney, the head of the ICRC delegation in Colombia, said at a press conference.
The ICRC also said that more than 180,000 people who have been affected by the over 40 year-long continuing armed conflict have received help or direct support by the ICRC last year.
