In Honduras, 800,000 Malnourished Children

Tegucigalpa - About 800,000 Honduran children suffer from chronic malnutrition, according to the UN World Food Program (WFP).

The WFP described as alarming the number of families without access to basic foods in this Central American nation, where seven of every 10 people live in poverty.

"A country in which 27 percent of its children suffer chronic malnutrition is not only a problem of development but also of security," said WFP representative Miguel Barreto in statements published in the newspaper El Heraldo.

However, campesino organizations such as Plataforma Agraria warned that the problems in Honduras have their roots in the unfair distribution of wealth.

In this country one percent of producers control one-third of the best land, while 375 small farmers have no place to plant.

(The author forgets to mention almost all the land has been taken by only a few wealthy business people who use the police to terrorize, in every way possible, the Hondurans attempting to live and plant on the land the government gave to them during the last few years.)

who had a contract with the earlier government is certainly a far cry from your feeble attempt to repudiate my post.

Do spend more time RESEARCHING the information available, and less time trying to contract people who DO make the effort.

5. I read several Revistazo.com articles about the campesinos murders and promises not kept.
They were supposed to get 3000 hectares of land but have only got half of that. Lubo's government is not being forthcoming and raided Instituto Nacional Agrario (national agricultural institute) "in search of weapons."

I just thought you were being very critical of a journalist who did make mention of the disproportionate land ownership.

3. The events in Egypt reminded me so much of what happened in Honduras
and its disheartening that their genuine drives for freedom were not recognized but confused with real politic, cold war nonsense, Chavez, and US military interests by primarily Hillary. She also jumped right in and recognized Suliman, the VP at the time..

4. She did so well with Honduras, too, didn't she? Isn't she a little over-reaching?
Very, very unpleasant.

6. Have you read the cables from Honduras?
They were released about two weeks ago, they're quite telling.
