The massacre of Accomarca, Ayacucho, one of worst that happened during 20 years of anti-terrorism war in Peru, took place almost 25 years ago and the victims still wait for justice, claims their lawyer Karim Ninaquispe.

On August 14, 1985, during a few days after Alan Garcia took office for his first government, an Army patrol killed 62 villagers of Accomarca, including elderly, women and children.

Some days after that, the Army killed another seven people that had witnessed the events.

Ayacucho was by then the principal bastion of the Maoist terrorist group Shining Path.

“When the military arrived, they told everyone that there was to be a meeting in Llocllapampa (three kilometers away from Accomarca). My mother went with my five little siblings. She hugged me crying and told she would be back, but she never came back, neither did my siblings,” told Teófila Ochoa to EFE news agency.

Ochoa, who was 11 years old, hid in a hill nearby.

“The soldiers dragged pregnant women on the floor, hit the men, raped some women, children were crying... gun fire and explosions started by the afternoon, and then they set fire to the houses,” she recalls.
