Jim DeMint's Propaganda on Honduran Election
Actual Headline in South Carolina: "Jim DeMint Statement on Successful Honduran Election"

http://news.sc/2009/12/05/jim-demint-statement-on-successful-honduran-elections

..............

“Our loyal friends in Hondurans have proven that freedom and democracy can and will succeed when people are willing to fight for it. The Honduran people stood together and emphatically rejected attempts by Chavez, Noriega and the Castro brothers to prop up a dictator and subvert their constitution.”

“I’m very encouraged by our administration’s decision to stand with the Honduran people, recognize the elections, and commit to work with president-elect President Lobo. I hope we can quickly reestablish the strong relationship between our nations, and that the international community will recognize the choice of the Honduran people.”

“This year, the people of Honduras have taken a bold stand against tyranny, and friends of freedom throughout the world should applaud their courageous defense of the rule of law. During my trip to Honduras, I was impressed by their desire for liberty and commitment to constitutional democracy. The Honduran people have much to be proud of, and I’m proud to stand with them.”

2. No doubt DeMint's host told him all those demonstrators in the streets were supporting the coup!

3. LOL! What do you suppose the fate of the US 'South 'Vietnamization' of Colombia agreement
will be, under THAT gaze in the Senate--when it arrives seeking Senate approval?!

Will it wither and die like the Wicked Witch of the West?

I fear not. Kerry lost this round with DeMint--and DeMint now seems to be our real Secretary of State--and maybe Defense Secretary as well, all wrapped up into one. First term Senator, Puke-SC, the state with THE most non-transparent voting system in the USA, and he's running things, including Oil War II: South America.

Will Kerry and co. be any more able to stop this one than they were on the first one--much as they may loathe contemplating Vietnam deja vu all over again, especially Kerry?

I don't think anyone can stop it--the "agreement" has all the elements of Vietnam, including NO LIMIT on US troop and US 'contractor' deployments to Colombia, total immunity for US military personnel, SEVEN new US military bases in Colombia and use of all civilian airports and other facilities. Combined with new US military bases in Panama, the US 4th Fleet in the Caribbean and the securing of the US military base and port facilities in Honduras, through a rightwing military coup, not to mention the intense psyops/disinformation campaign against Venezuela's president, this has gone way beyond omens of war to the placement of war assets on the Big Board.

I don't think it's imminent. I think it's two years away (what with the "surge" in Afghanistan, US bankruptcy and other problems) and the US may just fall apart before then. Or Latin America's strongly predominant leftist leadership may be able to head it off--certainly a possibility. But the critical need for more oil, to fuel the Pentagon's war machine may, on the other hand, prompt swifter US action. They've got the Colombian military to do most of the fighting for them ($6 BILLION in US military aid to Colombia)--a ruthless organization that is eager to invade Venezuela--and the other assets. They may not need that many troops (Vietnam scale). And they are likely working with fascist groups within Venezuela's oil region to declare their "independence" at the appropriate moment and pave the way for US/Colombia occupation. But, win or lose, a lot of people will die horrible deaths, and the US will have destroyed the peace and inflicted mayhem on yet another part of the world.

So, Senator Kerry, are you going to see four major, genocidal US wars in your lifetime? Am I? Are we all? Are we going to see an oil war in our hemisphere on top of everything else? We who love peace and would like to be citizens of a just and good country?

Ah, me! It is so sad and enraging at the same time. This is the man who was elected President in 2004. And if he had been permitted to take office, YES, things would have been different, a) no humongous bankster looting; b) four years less of humongous Bushwhack war profiteering and other looting; c) quicker drawdown of Iraq and Afghanistan (both would be over by now, and major peace agreements in place), d) major US initiative on alternative energy, starting six years ago, and e) we would be joining hands with leaders like Hugo Chavez to help achieve social justice in Latin America, at long last, instead of plotting to steal their oil.

4. SC elections aren't even legal according to their state constitution
because it explicitly calls for public counting. Who knows if DeMint has ever even been elected.

5. I would bet a lot of money that he wasn't. The trouble is there is NO WAY to ever know.
SC elections are completely unverifiable. No paper trail whatsoever. I guess if you could somehow get the code. But now that Diebold has been subsumed into ES&S, we can be fairly sure that erasing hard drives and shipping them to landfills in China was part of the deal.
