1. Yup, this could explain Mitcheletti's strange removal of himself as Junta head.

They're going to put a Generalissimo in charge, to crush the resistance once and for all, and then the new "president" ('elected' amidst a military state of emergency and crushing of the left--geez) will make everything new and shiny with forgetfulness and immunize the General ("we need to look forward, not backward").

Pontius Pilot couldn't have done a better hand-washing.

(But then there's Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth. ("Out, damn spot!") Karma can really suck.)
