Chile blasts spying comments by Peru's Garcia
Chile's President Michelle Bachelet on Tuesday condemned as haughty and offensive comments by Peru's leader Alan Garcia over a spy scandal that has stirred century-old tensions between the neighbors.
Garcia on Monday demanded a detailed explanation from Chile after Peru detained one of its own air force officers on suspicion of treason for allegedly spying for Chile.

Chile's government has denied any involvement, and Garcia on Monday stopped short of suggesting the spat would hurt bilateral trade worth more than $3 billion a year.

"The expressions we heard yesterday, which I would call offensive and haughty, do not contribute to the integration and cooperation that neighbors should enjoy," Bachelet said in remarks at the opening of an air traffic control facility in Santiago.

"I think this is a time, if we really want to work for the welfare of our peoples, for respect above all, as well as responsibility from the authorities," she added.

1. Peruvian commander of the army

was video taped at a party saying that any Chilean (soldier) who entered Peruvian territory "would not leave. Or he would leave in a box. And if there are not enough boxes, they will leave in plastic bags.

He said (Peruvian) women should "love" the Chileans and than blow them up with a bomb.

This is just recently, during the Bachelet and Garcia presidencies. (Think the video was filmed in 2007 or 2008.)

The youtube caused an uproar in Santiago and Bachelet demanded the general be fired, which in turn caused an uproar in Lima.

The upshot is that the Peruvian general was "retired" before about four years before his tour as commander of the army expired.

Incidents like this and the latest spying episode crop up every few years. Don't think Peru will start anything serious though, because if they do, the Chileans are likely to march into Lima for the third or fourth time since independence from Spain for both countries.

2. I think Garcia has his marching orders from the Bushwhacks, to cause as much trouble as possible
--particularly to cause dissent within and break up UNASUR. Remember, he was the ONLY leader in South America who refused to attend the emergency UNASUR meeting on Bolivia last year. Even Colombia attended--and voted with the majority! I think that (Colombia) was Batchelet's diplomacy. UNASUR is a real big threat to our global corporate predators and war profiteers. Peru is their "poster child" for "free trade for the rich"--one of their very few "victories." If UNASUR gets going, South Americans will be forging close ties with each other, on trade, development and social justice, and "free trade for the rich" will be aced out (like the World Bank/IMF have been).

Garcia has something like a 25% approval rating. That may be a factor with him, as to picking a fight with Chile. But he's so filthy with Bushwhack/US ties that I don't think this spat with Chile is at all innocent, nor all political cover. I think it is mostly Bushwhack global corporate and war profiteer strategizing.

Chile's settlement of its 100 year old dispute with Bolivia, giving Bolivia access to the sea at long last, was engineered by Batchelet in the midst of that US/Bushwhack attack on Bolivia (funding, organizing the white separatist rebellion right out of the US embassy). It was meant to bolster the elected (and hugely popular) Morales government, under attack from Washington, and to promote peace. Garcia, instead of settling the matter amicably, in the spirit of fairness and solidarity, immediately began making trouble about it--taking it to the Hague, etc. (Peru claims that the Chile/Boliiva agreement violates Peru's territory in some way--but I don't know the details.) Batchelet chose to settle the matter for the common good, by yielding on Bolivia's access to the sea. Not Garcia. The Bushwhacks don't want peace. They are planning a war. They thrive in chaos and conflict.

4. Sure glad he's near the end of his Presidency. It can't come nearly soon enough.
He should be tried for his evil massacres.

"Two Breakfasts" Garcia has developed a taste for innocent blood, bringing grief and suffering to the helpless, just like his little friend.
