Grenade thrown at building with Honduran ballots

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Assailants hurled a grenade at the building housing ballots for the upcoming Honduran presidential elections, which are taking place under the shadow of a four-month crisis caused by a coup.

The grenade exploded 550 yards (500 meters) from the building, and there were no damages.

Police spokesman Orlin Cerrato said Friday "the intention was to destroy election material to sabotage the elections." The attack happened Thursday night.

Ousted President Manuel Zelaya is urging the international community not to recognize the Nov. 29 election if he is not reinstated beforehand.

The government that took power in the June 28 coup is hoping the election will end the country's diplomatic isolation.

1. There is a ready supply of "Russian-made, rocket-propelled grenade"s in Honduras?
This one is smelling already. Wonder what the going price is for RPGs.

2. Micheletti is already blaming Nicaragua

Just before turned in last night was reading chat room out of Teguz. Chatters said TWO very strong explosions had been heard about midnight in the heart of the capital.

A small plane was heard overflying the area shortly before the blast(s). There has been no explanation about the aircraft yet.

The AP article was funny. It said the grenade missed the target by 550 yards !!

This is what the golpistas said exploded. I do not know what in blazes it is, but if it exploded, it sure seems to be in fine shape.

Here is a blurb the golpista El Heraldo is running:

12:03pm
Micheletti. El presidente dijo que están investigando el atentado contra el Infop. Dijo que el artefacto solo lo tiene el ejército nicaragüense en Centroamérica.

(The president said (they) are investigating the attack against the Infop. He said only the Nicaraguan army has the artefact in Central America.

(The INFOPO is a technical school in Teguz. It has been militarized since last week to store the ballots in preparation for the elections.)

--------------------------------

To me it is just crude propaganda to blame the resistance. But in this case, goriletti is blaming Nicaragua, which is sure to draw some kind of sharp reply today from Managua.

3. Who would use an RPG when a pint of gas in a Coke bottle would do?

If the resistance had RPGs they would get a lot more respect.

Also why use an RPG to burn paper when you can save it for Micheletti?

And why leave the launcher around?

4. 1,650 feet! Over 5 football fields away from the target. Some detective work by the golpigstas.
And Nicaragua "done it," of course, if they can't pin it on a good Honduran.

You can see they're getting wired for something, starting off some selective attacks, a week or two ago, claiming the non-violent resisters have been responsible, trying to smear the people who don't, can't, will never support them.

6. When someone does something stupid,
You blame the people who have shown intelligence for The last 138 days, rather than the ones who have a proven track record for stupidity.

7. Stupid is locking the Honduran population in their homes endlessly to the point their kids
Edited on Fri Nov-13-09 06:43 PM by Judi Lynn
were starving earlier because parents were not able to get out to get food without running the risk of being shot or arrested.
Stupid is targeted political assassinations of teachers, union workers, activists, etc. Stupid is torture, depravity in raping Honduran women, and imprisonment, even storming into hospitals to retrieve beating victims in order to beat them all over again, so they won't forget.

Stupidity is the coup itself.

The Honduran people have an impeccable record of non violent dissent, even under conditions which would drive insulated people, like the loud, stupid, weak American conservitives insane.
