Dominican President to Update NAM on Honduras Case

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 10 (acn) Honduras´ constitutional President Manuel
Zelaya announced in Santo Domingo city that Dominican Republic President
Leonel Fernandez will update the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) on the
latest developments in Honduras during its Summit, to be held next week
in Egypt.

Presidents Zelaya and Fernandez held a close-door meeting at the
National Palace in Santo Domingo before offering a press conference, PL
news reported.

Zelaya told reporters that at the upcoming NAM Summit, President Leonel
Fernandez will put forth the positions of the Central American
Integration System, the Rio Group and the Organization of American
States (OAS) on the situation of Honduras. Manuel Zelaya announced that
he will not attend the Egypt Summit due to responsibilities he has to
meet in Latin America.

The Honduran head of state slashed out against the de facto rulers in
his country for their argument that what they carried out was not a
military coup but a thrust of democracy.

With regard to the near future, he didn’t want to share with the press
the regional strategy aimed at his reinstatement in his country’s
presidency. Zelaya added that his country had overcome similar
situations in the past and his people can do the same this time; “it is
a challenge, but we are not afraid to face it,” he said.
