European Parliamentarian Calls for Support of Anti-Coup Forces in
Honduras

HAVANA, Cuba, July 8 (acn) Willy Meyer, a member of the European
Parliament from the Spanish Izquierda Unida (IU) (United Left) party,
recommended on Tuesday the creation of a commission of the European
legislative body that would travel to Honduras to support local forces
that oppose the coup d’état staged against President Manuel Zelaya.
After a four-day stay in Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital, Meyer
highlighted the existence of a strong resistance movement against the
usurpers, reported the Bolivarian News Agency.
The European parliamentarian stressed the need to promote solidarity
actions to assist these resistance forces from abroad.
Meyer announced that Izquierda Unida is also considering taking the
case of 16-year-old Oved Murillo, who was killed by the military last
Sunday during a peaceful demonstration near the international airport of
Tegucigalpa, to the International Criminal Court.
Sunday’s military repression against supporters of President Zelaya
left two people dead and several wounded.
Meyer urged Europe to increase its pressure on the de facto regime
of Honduras led by Roberto Micheletti.
