Nicaragua affirms that the draft statement has not been unanimously agreed on

MANAGUA, April 7. – The Nicaraguan government maintained today that the final declaration for the 5th Americas Summit, which will take place in Trinidad and Tobago, is only a rough draft that "has not been approved or agreed to by consensus" by the heads of state who will attend the meeting from April 17 to 19.

The official position of Nicaragua is discussed in a letter issued this Tuesday in Managua by the ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Denis Moncada.

According to Moncada, "various countries have expressed reservations" about different subjects included in the draft of the declaration "which is why it’s not a consensus document."

"The 5th Americas Summit Commitment Declaration is a draft whose approval and consensus depends on presidents in the hemisphere deciding on it, who have the last word on the Declaration," the diplomat’s letter indicated.

Ortega’s government said that it was responding to a declaration by White House advisor for the Americans Summit, Jeffrey Davidow, who said that the declaration of the 5th Summit enjoys the support of the 34 countries in the hemisphere, according to DPA.
