The attack occurred close to the hamlet of Campo Hermoso, near San Vicente del Caguan, a city in Caqueta province, San Vicente del Caguan city commission chairman Noberto Clavijo told reporters.
ICBF director Elvira Forero said two of the five members of the team, which was on a humanitarian mission, were killed.
"Guerrillas (from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC) thought the (vehicle) was carrying the mayor and council members" of San Vicente del Caguan, located some 400 kilometers (249 miles) south of Bogota, who have been the target of guerrilla death threats for months, Clavijo said.
The five social workers were in an ICBF vehicle that was completely destroyed by the blast near Campo Hermoso, where the FARC has a heavy presence.
