Finally, Joe gets the pulpit!

He seems rather subdued though. I miss the old Joe. Hopefully we'll see that Joe again in the months to come.

1. I can't help but wonder
how tightly Obama is holding his leash.

I was thinking about that today when I was walking Tobi.
I learned a new way to hold her leash to train her to walk at the same pace as me.
She's a strong, muscular dog and likes to walk me....

Hopefully Obama will give Joe more room to roam soon.

2. I was thinking the same thing
and found myself watching Obama watching Biden. Guess I shouldn't read between the lines so early, but I'd hate to see Joe's many talents misused or unappreciated.

So, how did you hold the leash? Starbuck is a real tugger on the leash and its exhausting.

3. First you need to get one of those chains, They're not as scary as they look.
Then you hold the leash straight up while walking the dog - giving the dog just enough leash.
I actually held the leash in my left hand, while Tobi was on my right. But it was my right hand that was holding the leash upward. Does that make sense?? It really helps.
Haha - I was watching The Dog Whisperer over the weekend. That's where I learned the trick.
Thank you Cesar :) Altho Tobi probably doesn't appreciate Cesar very much right now.
I just couldn't take it anymore. Tobi is all muscle and my back has been killing me.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that has the same concerns about Joe's leash.

4. take Cesar with a grain of salt.
I know a number of trainers who despise him. I've only seen his show once and read part of one of his books, but I think he takes the alpha thing way beyond normal dog and wolf behavior.

But I do think the chain collars can be OK - main thing is for them to have large-diameter chain loops. It's the small ones that are dangerous and can choke a dog. Read a good book on that by Barbara Woodhouse (sp?) whatever her name is - she trained Brian Kilcommins whose books I like.

I'm a fan of Gentle Leader head halters. Only way I can control two large high-prey-drive dogs while walking on ice. Don't work for all dogs, and they have to be used correctly or they're dangerous or create problems like any other special leash.

6. There's no way I could get that harness on Tobi.
She's so funny. She gets so excited when it's time for her walk that she can't sit still long enough for me to put her leash on. She's such a character. It takes like 5 minutes to get her leash on. She has totally stole my heart - and she knows it. I love that dog.
Tobi only wears that chain while we are walking - no way would I keep it on her at home.

I know what you mean about Cesar. He is kinda weird. This seemed like a good thing to try - not much different than what I learned at some dog training classes I took. He also showed a way to walk the dog hands free, by wrapping the leash around your waist. I might try that tomorrow.
I miss walking with weights, so this could be interesting.

I'll have to check out those books by Barbara Woodhouse.
Tobi is ALOT better from when we brought her home, but she still has some issues that we need to deal with.

11. I can't imagine having to walk on ice while walking Tobi.
I gotta hand it to you.
You must be quite muscular. I'd be on my behind for sure.

8. Oh okay
I know what you're talking about. That makes sense. I know I've trained dogs to walk along side me years ago, but couldn't remember how.

As for Joe, I just hate to see him contained or controlled. Sigh. Its still early though.

9. I guess you're right
Hopefully he'll have the opportunity to be "fiery" behind the scenes! I hope Obama takes advantage of Biden's many abilities.

10. He will be able to tell Obama how is. He will have to be a bit more subdued as VP.
But he is still Joe! Still the same big smile yesterday, it was so nice to see him speak.
