WASHINGTON — Barack Obama hasn’t decided on a running mate, one of his national campaign co-chairman said today.

Former Sen. Tom Daschle told reporters that the campaign also hasn’t decided when the vice presidential selection will be announced.

“I don’t think Barack even knows yet when it’s going to happen because that decision-making is still going on,” Daschle said.

The Democratic National Convention begins Monday, Aug. 25, and the running mate is scheduled to speak Wednesday, Aug. 27.

Daschle said he doubted that the campaign would wait until Aug. 26 to announce the choice, but anticipates an announcement will happen closer to the convention.

Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine are among the Democrats frequently mentioned as possible choices. Both men represent states where Obama is trying to be the first Democratic presidential candidate to succeed in more than 40 years.

Daschle said, “It’s clear that there are certain candidates who would improve the chances” of the campaign in certain states. But, he added, that he’s advised Obama to make his decision primarily on two factors.

“Pick somebody first that can take your job if you’re not here,” Daschle said. “And, second, somebody for whom you have good personal chemistry because you’re going to work together for the next eight years so you might as well like it.”

Eh - what the heck does Daschle know?

1. I honestly thing Russia/Georgia is causing them to reexamine their criteria.
And Joe is definitely the one who could take that job if need be.

2. I think the only thing that's still undecided is when
they announce. I think the decision of who it is was made back in Iowa.

4. No. If Obama's the nominee, I think
Biden's been his choice, and Biden's known it, since Iowa. I think the Russia thing makes them feel like the Guinness commercial.... "GENIUS".

5. Bwha!
I think you're the only one I've heard express that opinion -- but you may be on to something!

Love the Guiness reference!!

6. In hindsight, you can see the facts fit the hypothesis.

7. I agree
They have worked so hard to not connect Biden with Obama. All this public guessing the last few days probably detracts from the "surprise" element.

8. I think that is a trap set by Rovian operatives
who were cruising Crimea last month. Regardless, I'd love to see Joe as VP. I think they'd make a dynamic team together.
