I hate this time of year.
No yard sales, no church bazaars, nothing. I call it the dead zone. There's still the thrift shops and the recycling center (aka the dump), but it's not the same. There's nothing like walking up to a yard sale and spotting a treasure dirt cheap. I really ought to consider moving south.

1. You are right, nothing happens this time of year. Move south and
you would have to bring a van load of stuff bach to this neck of the woods to sell it in the spring and summer. Prices are lower well below the Mason-Dixon line but your profit would be here in in this area. The immediate world thinks that the best Antiquing is in New England.

Many years ago, we drove to Florida in early March, stopped at every shop along the way. Ended up in Naples with a full van(we had a big Chevy Beauville, seats removed). Decided that if we found any more goodies we'd rent a trailer to lug the stuff home. We still bought "smalls" but no more furniture.

Lots of goodies to be found then, not sure of the situation now but countless New Englanders go south to retire. When it's time to go meet their maker, the stuff is sold or auctioned. A NE dealer could take it home and start the route all over again.

New thrift in our area. Not a conventional one but a large one run by a big charity, Big Brothers-Big Sisters. It is called Savers.

I have found a few goodies so far but it is really mostly clothing. Good prices, clean and neat.

Goodwill and Salvation Army now have a staff to go over everything so there seems to be very little opportunity to find anything for resale. I can't say I blame them but it takes the fun and challenge out of a visit to those stores.

2. People might donate more to the thrifts for the tax deduction at this time
But I'm a thrift shop shopper any time of year. It's easier on my back to just hit one place and spend an hour there instead of hopping in and out of the car.

I want to head over to the thrifts this coming week. Cold weather is setting in around here and I hope to find some colorful wool sweaters for making felt.

South? I can just see you at that huge southern yard sale that stretches hundreds of miles. You'd be in heaven. :D

3. I'd have to learn how to drive a tractor trailer truck before I hit that sale.
