A short thrift trip today
I picked up an older woolen blanket in bright, autumn blocks of color. Being lightweight it would make a pretty piece of felt after going through the wash. Or, it would look like nice on a chair next to a table holding the Italian lamp. I'm sensing an orange theme happening this past week.

Also, I found a wire magazine rack. It's very small and what I've been looking for to hang on the bathroom wall in the garage. After hunting for months online and at Target etc, it shows up at the thrift. Go figure. It needs cleaning and some paint - not orange.

Then there was an old Ekco starburst muffin tin like this one. Mine is in better shape.

Last, I found two cute cotton floral aprons. One is a bib style with happy florals of pink, rose and green on a white background. The other is yellow and green.

The thing that got away was an older bird cage. Not ornate but a nice vintage shape. I walked up, glanced and walked away. As I turned to go back, a woman picked it up. I should have followed my usual method of putting it in the basket first and making my mind up later.

1. I need to find a good thrift shop like that one in Lakeside that I told you about.
It was so nicely organized, with lots of plugs to test electrical appliances. I think it would be fun to go and browse now and then, like I used to at garage sales. But garage sales can be so hit and miss and tiring.

I should also get rid of a bunch of stuff, either by donating or selling, to make room for the new old stuff! :hi:

2. Hi!!!
I donate to and shop at the ARC. It feels like "my" store. It would be great if you could find one that's in your usual driving path.

I hope you're doing good! I read about your trip and it sounds like so much fun!!!

5. I need to google and see what we have besides Goodwill and the Salvation Army.
I just realized it's Lakewood, not Lakeside, right? Anyway, I'd visit that store on our trip but we'll be flying back! ;)

It will be good to spend time in the mountains again. You DO know how lucky you are, right? :D Oh, and there's seeing my daughter of course.

I'm doing fine, thanks! One of these days, maybe all this will be behind me!

8. Yes, I'm in Lakewood but aren't they south in the Englewood/Littleton area?
I hope you have a really great time in the mountains. It'll be cooler up there in August for sure.

You're near Austin? My memory is fuzzy. One day when you have time after you get back home from your whirlwind trip and the weather cools down a little you'll find some shops locally. It can be relaxing just looking around a shop.

10. The one I went to a couple of years ago was right at the border
between Denver and Lakewood. I'm trying to remember the name of the street that starts with an E and deadends at Lakewood and goes all the way east through Denver. The thrift store is right where it deadends on the west side. I thought you had been there either before or after I mentioned it once before. I remember there was a huge line of people just waiting for it to open up on a Saturday morning in May!

But if you're talking about my daughter and her boyfriend, yes, they're in Englewood now, hoping to move to the mountains one day.

I'm just 15 minutes from the Austin city limits and teach in Austin. Checking out this thrift store is definitely on my to-do list! :hi:

11. Evans is the street you're remembering
My chiropractor is way out east on Evans & Oneida. Next time I visit her I'll stop at that location. Sounds like a no-brainer for me to find it. Just go home taking Evans westerly until the road ends! I can handle that. :D

Sometimes I don't find a darned thing. And other times it's one thing after another. You just never know. Nice when it's a store you can pass between school and home. Hope your to-do list is mostly fun.

12. It's Evans at S. Sheridan.
I guess Evans continues a little past Sheridan (according to the map) but I thought that it continued into the parking lot of the thrift store. I recall the store being on the southwest side of that intersection. Let me know what you think, if you get a chance to go! :hi:

9. Oh, I hear that's a good one!
We don't have those here and I wish we did. If I'm not mistaken they do things like have days when you can fill a bag for one price. That sounds like fun.

3. My thrift stores are awful
St Vincent's charges more than the regular stores and I think they take home the good stuff first anyway. We have a human society thrift store, but they've started moving the collectibles into a sort of boutique (expensive) section, so it's hard to find good buys anymore. I did find some forks, (what does my family do with silverware?), that turned out to be stanley roberts bellwood pattern. That was kind of fun. Sounds like you have a great thrift store. I'm jealous!

4. We have a thrift shop but you have an ocean!
I looked up the pattern of the silverware. Nice! Did you know that they make an ice cream fork in that pattern? I never even knew there was such a thing as an ice cream fork!

6. It's Senior Day today and the 1/2 off pricing had be crawling back.for another look
Earlier I saw a small round table with ceramic top inserted in a ring of wicker. But when I went back a closer inspection showed that in one area, the ceramic top was pulling away from the wicker. I'm just not in the mood to figure out how to repair it. And the ceramic center colors didn't have the wow factor to sway the decision. But farther down the aisle there was a tubular metal legged glass topped table. I got that for the patio instead. We just power washed today's finds.

I'll spray paint the table legs orange to match the chaise lounge. Just kidding! It'll be black. I've been carrying another table around the yard as needed. No more of that.

Also found a very sturdy, red Qwik Step Ladder with 2 steps for the kitchen. After power washing it's ready for duty. Now I can clean the pot rack with confidence since the hand grip is nice and tall. For 5 bucks I did pretty good.

14. Lucky you! It was so hot here today, I dared not venture out
My favorite thrift store is like a sweat lodge when it gets this hot, it's just unbearable.

I found one of those kinds of pans at a garage sale a few weeks back - but it's a cake pan, with that texturing all over it. Although not sure what I'll do with it - I really don't think I can imagine cleaning it, lol. I mean, after use. It's something that I don't think can go in the dishwasher, so it'd have to be done by hand. Ugh. Nope, it's not even tempting to try it once, lol. Even with a Pam precoat.

Maybe for jello, though.

Orange jello! Yeah, that's it! :D

17. the pans I grab are the cake pans with the turnaround release thingy
I love those. I have no idea why they aren't made any more -- they are simply the best for layer cakes.
