Nevada study group pushing for private toll roads
In hopes of tapping into public-private partnerships to build highways in Nevada, a special panel created by the governor has decided to call on state lawmakers to make it happen.

The study committee, created by Gov. Jim Gibbons, recommended asking the Nevada Legislature to authorize pursuing deals with private groups to build highways.

1. I'd prefer they invested that money in mass transit
Private toll roads make their money by encouraging people to make more car journeys. A shift to more sustainable modes of transportation would be bad for business.

2. This business of privatising roads is batshit insane.
I'm sure that somewhere Grover Norquist is smiling, while drowning a voodoo doll with the word "government" scrawled on its chest in a bathtub.

Americans truly seem to have drunk the "all taxes are bad" kool-aid. I mean, privately-owned roads are a fantasy literally lifted out of Ayn Rand novels.

3. Wonder whether Randroids will put their money where their mouth is?
And only use private toll roads instead of those nasty socialized roads.

4. Looks like we're going to find out. Sad to say.
