Dailykos: "WHY would Palin refuse to fund rape kits. Here's your answer"
...I suppose that when most of us who are fortunate not to have been the victim of sexual assault hear the word "rape kit", we tend to think of it specifically in terms of forensic analysis and examination--DNA collection, trauma, that whole sort of thing.

But rape kits also contain...emergency contraception...

A few days ago a DUer who claimed to know someone "inside the McCain camp" claimed that the guy told him that "information" was going to come out soon that would exonerate Palin on this. I suspect that this is what it is. They probably think that Palin can justify this based on her opposition to abortion. The problem is that only the most fringe-y of people who oppose abortion have a problem with rape victims getting medication to prevent pregnancy.

Read the whole thing. Palin and her ilk really belong in padded cells. :scared:

1. I believe it

I spent a night researching Palin, everything came up equal to scary. (The creme was the AOG video)She is an unapologetic forced birther, even more frightening are probable beliefs like this. I know a fundamentalist or two, and objection to rape kits with emergency contraception is exactly what they would object their tax dollars going to.

2. Doesn't exhonerate her for me...

...but I do appreciate seeing this (thanks for the link, cb). Just confirms that she's an extremist. She exists in a world with a different colored sky than the one that surrounds reality.

What I don't understand is why so many feminists seem to be taking such great pains to defend her. I would think more would be upset over her identifying as "feminist."

3. You know, I'll defend her against attacks that are sexist.
Like comments about her looks or how she raises her family. But the idea that asking her tough questions about her knowledge of foreign policy or the economy or her positions on issues is sexist is simply ridiculous. She is becoming the personification of tokenism. She is making a mockery of the accomplishments and hard work of women who take public service seriously. And I love how the RW is beside themselves trying to paint her as a feminist. I'm seeing numerous articles by wingers describing how Palin is a 'true' feminist. I guess she is, if by feminist they mean "selling your sisters down the river in order to keep male domination firmly in place". We've seen this woman before, when her name was Phyllis Schlafly.

4. It's insulting.

RW'ers have long rejected real "feminism," as uppity women that don't know their place--lurking about corners offering birth control to single women, and abortions to pregnant women. :eyes: So I'm always suspicious when they label someone "feminist" so quickly and easily. It's like they're trying to redefine what feminism is, but using the definition you provide (above)as the "true feminit ideal".

I wonder if they're even aware they've found the Schlafly clone... (sigh)
