Another favorite blog
Deaign*Sponge is one of my favorite blogs for contemporary design. http://designsponge.blogspot.com/

These days it feels like what's old is new again. 1970s bold designs are popular. So it takes me back to the days right after I got out of college. Some of the craft bloggers scoop up 1970s craft books. It has me grazing the books section of the local thrift shop, too.

1. This link reminds me of another:
www.etsy.com Crafters sell their items there....has the same "look"....take a peek and see what you think. I've browsed around it quite a bit and it's nice to see younger women doing hand sewing and crafts....makes me feel good! Isn't that silly?

2. I like etsy, too
Usually, I visit because I read blogs that have etsy shops. Seems like I ought to just browse, too.

You aren't silly! I feel the same way about young women diving into sewing etc. I started doing crafts when I was very little back in the early 50s. Now I see the younger generations being so innovative. I'm delighted to see that the craft arts never die.

It's such a kick that they're also into the 70s designs these days. Just last night I was watching Turner Classic Movies. "Blowup" was on since they were having a Cannes Film Festival night. That movie came out in 1966 and I bet I haven't seen it since it first came out. A-line dresses in mod prints with matching colored tights. They didn't even look dated.

3. I can't believe it..I watched "Blowup" too and couldn't
get over it. What a walk through time. At the time I thought the movie was very strange. I had gone alone to see it (Skipped out on a study table) so I could never ask those I hung with if they had seen it since I couldn't admit I had skipped out!

I too started young with sewing...about 1954, I would guess. I loved crafts too. Made doll clothes on my hand turned balance wheel machine! It was itty bitty as were the doll clothes...still have that poor little doll...she really had her arms 'stretched' to fit into some of my marvelous creations!

4. What a stitch! No pun intended...
I think it's interesting to watch movies from back then that at the time had me scratching my head. Some of the foreign movies were definitely for people who had way more experience in life and relationships. Now I watch them and finally get them or wonder "what's the big deal?".

I also had one of those tiny hand crank sewing machines. Mine was black and came from Santa. :) I was just thinking about it the other day. It's one of the things that didn't make it over the years. Probably rusted out badly since I grew up near the ocean. I'm in awe that you made doll clothes. I was only master of the straight stitch. I only made repairs. But I did crochet my Ginny doll a few skirts and hats. I think I tried sewing her a dress which came out too odd for her to wear. Good memories nevertheless.

5. The movie thing: I scratched my head a lot.....the theater where
I would go was cheap and showed a lot of foreign sub-titled films....but good. I was young and naive and didn't have anything but suppositions of what it was all about. I wish I were still so naive and I wouldn't be troubled by all that's going on today!

My little sewing machine was blue---sorta powder blue and too was a gift from Santa! I have no idea what happpened to mine except that it was probably thrown out by my mother who hated sewing, still does at 91, and she got rid of a lot of my stuff while I was in college...probably when I was watching the foreign films at the Von Lee theater in Bloomington,IN! I should ask her...she might remember. I'd kinda like to know what the final days for my trusted little machine were like!

6. Aw, jeez!
That's why ebay loves people like us! Once in a while I go hunting for stuff I had just to see a photo of similar. My brother had an old crank toy steam shovel. I think it was a hand me down. Looks to me like something from the 1930s. Anyhow, I remember painting the roof when I was little after he stopped playing with it. It goes for $$$ on ebay these days.

About the movies, I'll never forget La Ventura. I was totally baffled by it as a teen. I'll admit that I'm still a little baffled but not as much as back then. Oy!
