No jobs for US citizens without Homeland Security approval
No jobs for US citizens without Homeland Security approval
Submitted by Canada IFP on Sat, 2007-05-26 18:00.Americas | United States | News

US citizens who apply for a job will need prior approval from Department of Homeland Security under the terms immigration bill passed by the Senate this week.

American Civil Liberties Union pointed out that the DHS's Employment Eligibility Verification System (EEVS) is error plagued and if the department makes a mistake in determining work eligibility, there will be virtually no way to challenge the error or recover lost wages due to the bill’s prohibitions on judicial review.

Even current employees will need to obtain eligibility approval from the DHS Within 60 days of the Immigration Reform Act of 2006 becoming law.

1. Apply for a job WHERE?
There's no reference in your post(s) about what countries are involved here.

3. Does (or will) this apply to every person in the US?
Even if you were born here and lived here all you're life? Is it too late to move out of the country yet?

4. New national ID? Your drivers license will be reissued to meet federal
standards and some states are demanding that congress take a second look at this.So the legislation has been passed (without debate) and its just a matter of time..
We wont even be able to open a bank account without this ID card..Talk about losing our civil rights........

14. You may have a good point there because
the Fed.government wants to pass the costs of this Federal ID on to the states and the millions it will cost. Its not enough to have a Social Security number issued at birth now we need a picture Federal ID..
When I first read this about 4 months ago I thought it was some kinda joke but this ID thing is real....

5. So now B*shcabal™ has its perfect vehicle for political persecution of all citizens.
Oppose or offend the cabal, you never get a job again.
End of story- no appeals process exists.

This isn't the USA anymore.

7. "...current employees will need to obtain eligibility ..."
Does that mean that Homeland Security will have to approve me in order for me to keep my job?

9. Does anyone really think that Bushco is concerned with the plight
of undocumented workers?

This bill is a disaster...for EVERYONE except CorporateAmerica.
The provisions of the legislation that I'm aware of are mind-boggling: amnesty for gang members; automatic visas within 24 hours of application, with or without a background check; Halliburton-built hospitals and schools for Mexico. The z-visa seems to be basically a way to provide a constant pool of cheap labor (legally) to employers, while exempting them from Federal wage and worker protections...

And of course, it wouldn't be truly Bushonian unless provisions were thrown in robbing citizens of a few more constitutional rights for good measure..

Call your Legislators, folks: we all know how fond they are of passing legislation without reading it first.

15. ...
I tried to bring up this issue a few months ago. I work in the cargo industry and had to pass a gov background check due to new TSA regulations. (I do not handle cargo...I am a desk clerk that fills out forms that get stapled to cargo by other people. Ooo.) This after ALREADY passing a general one to be employed, upon hire. I did try and find a way to worm out of it on principle, but it wasn't clear if I even could.

Even the Texan-blue-collar guys outside say the TSA posters make them think of Hitler/Eastern European regimes.

18. This has fallen to page 2 way too quickly
It's no surprise coming from the "party for smaller government", but how much of a role did our Democratic leaders have in concocting this legislation?
