White House Outing Valerie Plame Makes Perfect Sense
it makes perfect sense if you want to:

1. get back at joe wilson & the op-ed he ran

andor

2. if you planned on going after iran all along and you want to make sure no one gets in your way (like some pesky noc--"no official cover"--agent.

from may 1, 2006:
"Reports Shuster in this rush transcript: "INTELLIGENCE SOURCES SAY VALERIE WILSON WAS PART OF AN OPERATION THREE YEARS AGO TRACKING THE PROLIFERATION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS MATERIAL INTO IRAN. AND THE SOURCES ALLEGE THAT WHEN MRS. WILSON'S COVER WAS BLOWN, THE ADMINISTRATION'S ABILITY TO TRACK IRAN'S NUCLEAR AMBITIONS WAS DAMAGED AS WELL."

(bold is mine)

the white house got plame out of the way so they could build their "case" to the american public on why attacking iran is a "goofd" idea.

give me a freakin break! (follow the oil--it's all about the oil!)

3. Yep, On Either Or Both Accounts
Lets just hope Americans get the truth for a change since they obviously don't get logic right away.

5. It became clear to me yesterday-
I never could quite get the motivation of outting Ms. Plame to "discredit" her husband-it just didn't make sense. Why would her being in the CIA make his report any more or less valid? But shutting down an operation that brings intellegence to the table that you don't want- now that's a motive I can buy.

6. These Goons Weren't That Smart
Not that there isn't some validity in what you say...and in today's context, losing Ms. Plame's expertise and contacts in Iran was a big loss, but that was a by-product of this sorrid scandal. Joe Wilson dared to call this regime on its bullshit at a time when those inside this regime felt they were unapproachable and able to stiffle any and all dissent. This had nothing to do with Iran and even Iraq...it was all about ego and power. It was someone pissing off Chenney and he was going to take whomever did it down...even if it meant outting his wife and her NOC status.

Yep, ya follow the oil and a lot of what goes on in that part of the world makes a lot of sense. In this case, though, exposing Plame and the resulting scandal started to shine lights on the OSP, the WHIG and the overall recklessness of the OVP. In the end it could prevent these goons from doing further damage as they won't be able to act without a lot of scrutiny.

7. Roger Waters' song "Perfect Sense"
The monkey sat on a pile of stones
And stared at the broken bone in his hand
And the stains of a Viennese quartet
Rang out across the land
The monkey looked up at the stars
And thought to himself
Memory is a stranger
History is for fools
And he cleaned his hands
In a pool of holy writing
Turned his back on the garden
And set out for the nearest town
Hold on hold on soldier
When you add it all up
The tears and the marrowbone
There's an ounce of gold
And an ounce of pride in each ledger
And the Germans killed the Jews
And the Jews killed the Arabs
And the Arabs killed the hostages
And that is the news
And is it any wonder
That the monkey's confused
He said Mama Mama
The President's a fool
Why do I have to keep reading
These technical manuals
And the joint chiefs of staff
And the brokers on Wall Street said
Don't make us laugh
You're a smart kid
Time is linear
Memory is a stranger
History is for fools
Man is a tool in the hands
Of the great God Almighty
And they gave him command
Of a nuclear submarine
And sent him back in search of
The Garden of Eden

9. From 1992, on the album "Amused to Death"
It's uneven (as much of Waters' stuff is) but one of his best, I think.
