NAFTA, GATT, WTO,...

..."ending welfare as we know it", and the Financial Services Modernization Act.

Obama trotting out Clinton is very telling and sickening from my leftist viewpoint.
It shows me (along with the health reform fiasco) exactly which wing of the Democratic Party matters to him...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Our system is broken and the wealthy are picking up what's leftover and flipping us the middle finger as they distract with their pretty words and their phony promises.
Soon to be "privatized"? Everything.

There is only one party in America.
The Capitalistic Party.

3. The Financial Wing of the Democratic Party
Thanks for that concept. It encapsulates a great deal.

It would be nice if the populists on the Left and the Right to find their common ground the way the Neoconservatives in the Democratic and Republican parties have found theirs.

5. yes, she nailed it
i read this when it came out. it scared me into paying off my debts (except for mortgage). i retire with a pension on 12/29, but it's still scary. the pension isn't much, but i'm expecting to add my little bit of SS when i turn 62. now, i just don't think it will be there. many many people will suffer. they can't just pull the rug out from under us without warning without expecting dire consequences!

7. Disaster Capitalism

TPTB have been practicing on other countries, now they're after the U.S.
This is not going to end well.
:(

I just applied for SS, I turn 62 in January. I hope I get a few SS checks before everything implodes.

6. This has been going on for so long now
I dont believe there is anyway for us to right it.

Starting with JFK in 1963, we have been on a long, meandering trail to tyranny and fascism and we are very nearly there now.

I could see it in plain view when Democrats let Reagan take a wild ride during his time and poppy should have been Impeached, but nothing was done. Jr should have been as well, ditto. Yet getting a hummer is of course impeacheable.

To paraphrase Frank Z, I expect the scenery to be removed and the brick wall at the back of the theater to come into view any time now.

9. As you many know GATT (which became the WTO) was FDR's idea to prevent a return of Smoot/Hawley-
like tariffs after WWII. He thought that encouraging international trade was a good thing. Democratic presidents since then have followed the same policy since then for the most part.

NAFTA is no where near the open trade that European countries have with each other. What makes them progressive is not keeping out foreign stuff (they trade more than we do), but taking care of their own people with progressive taxes, strong unions, effective social safety nets, good eduction systems and national health care.

14. Such a disconnect in our national psyche
People are terrified that Obama is a communist, but never do I hear mention that the Communist Chinese finance our debt and all our industry has been sent to this communist country. No problemo.
