2. If he didn't "surrender" on taxes, the economy would lose over a million jobs according to Krugman

himself, which would likely cause him to lose re-election, which means the next Republican would lower the top rate FAR below 35%.

So in effect, the thing stopping a flat tax in 2013 is that people who are opposed to this deal won't in the end get their way.

4. All you've done in this whole debate is push the DLC line.

If the tax cuts for the rich stay in now, there in forever. No politicians will have the guts to do what's right in 2012 if it isn't done now.

The amount most non-wealthy people get from the tax cuts is trivial on an individual level.

We don't have to capitulate to Orange Man in the short term to win in the future.
