Most Americans Don't Know What The Top Marginal Tax Rates Were In The Past
A little perspective will go a long way. We need to inform them. When I inform people of this, most are shocked and many Don't believe me until I show them. This is a valuable piece of info. Use it every chance you get.

5. I never cease to be amazed at how some want to spread American Imperialism all
over earth, feed the MIC $$$, and simultaneously wage war with no taxes and have their taxes lowered at the same time.

I think a virus has sucked all the brains out of the US for the most part.

Bless the Corporate Welfare State

2. Many Americans that vote R somehow think they are part of the real
wealth of this country and are so damn naive, so many are so damn clueless. What you posted is an excellent idea. We have a generational loss of memory. We have a lot of mindless robots walking around IMO.

4. I can't believe how many people can't remember what rates they paid in 1979. I sure do. I
paid more as a single working mother then than I do now, where I make 3 times as much money.

7. 90% of Americans couldn't get an F- (score of 40/100) on a 1973 11th grade civics exam
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 11:34 AM by tom_paine
Inform to your heart's content, and I genuinely mean that. Just try not to think of attempting to drain the Atlantic with a teaspoon, while at the same time the Mighty Mississippi of Fox News and the rest of the Corporate Media/RW Lie Machine Fusion dumping in while you do so.

Problem is, almost all of our fellow American Subjects are so dumbed down, disinformationalized, propagandized and ADD-ized that you have to have a 30 minute converstaion just to inform them of simple shit they should remember from high school and even grade school, even before you start making your point

Long before that, their ADD eyes will glaze over and their heads will be filled with dancing ADD images.

If you are going to do that, make sure you speak in binary Cable TV soundbyte. And don't forget to repeat your main point at least half a dozen times, as we all our conditioned by a lifetime of exposure to advertising and marketing not to remember anything unless it is repeated and repeated and repeated and repeated.

Good luck in your efforts.

And just in case anyone thinks I think I am better than anyone else, I'm. As a member of the American Subject Populace, I am as ADD-afflicted as anyone.

I CAN get an F- on an 1973 11th-grade Civics exam, though.

9. Could THAT be because when they were in school Civics was still being taught?
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 11:39 AM by whathehell
Before Reagan made them "not mandatory" and coupled that with dropping the Fairness Doctrine so the Reich Wing could beget Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and the rest?

Just sayin..

edited for spelling.

13. Doesn't matter why anymore. Only the reality of what is.
I am speaking of the knowledge, and a score of 40 should be attainable by an intelligent, well-read 8th grader, even in most of today's schools.

You'll get no argument from me that this was a long-term, highly planned and multi-faceted operation the Bushies put on to wreck everything so they could loot it and the world. It had to be that way because the Founders created the toughest system yet known to attempt to keep tyrants and demagogues from subverting and/or destroying the system.

It survived Civil War and Robber Barons. It Survived World Wars.

But it could not survive this massively financed, multi-deacdes concerted RW Authoritarian attack across the board at everything that underpinned the freedom and constitutionality of our system.

10. Yeah, well said! I'm old enough to recall civics exams in HS being quite
comprehensive, let alone the university courses we were all required to take. I have no idea how America is going to dig out of this because so many Americans are too ignorant to know they are extremely ignorant. Then, on top of that, the apathy in the US is incredible.

It is a country ripe for servitude, a shadow of what it once was. One step is to care to to obtain valid credible information, but we have many citizens that think Beck, Palin, Limbaugh and the like are pilers of irrefutable information.

12. Reagan B.S.
Don't go union...

Trust the companies to 'TRICKLE DOWN" their Profits...

The Corporate game began with Reagan...a ripe old actor who would destroy the principles of the Constitution...the principles of a country that saw the evils of the Aristocratic and Monarchy and decided to change things that acknowledged every man's contribution was worth something = a living wage.

Reagan started the concept that individual with money was all Capitalism was about...Not the worker that showed up every day to make the product.

Sp, it took 20 years of 200 years to go right back to Aristocratic ideals...that caused poor houses. Are we there yet? Yes.

15. The top brackets have the lowest tax rates since Hoover.
That should be all they'd need to know.

16. Next time you're in an argument with someone about taxes, ask them....
to tell you what previous President's tax rates would you prefer we currently were at rather than Obama's.

No matter what they say, it's the wrong answer. They're lower now than they've ever been.

17. K&R It's why they believe economic fantasies. They don't know the facts
about real eras of broad prosperity. Yes, we had some. And in living memory of some of us too.

A high top-tier rate progressive tax WORKS, it generates more prosperity.

Trickle down, even Bush Sr. admitted once in a moment of candor was "voo doo economics". Remember that too? Another little-known fact today.
