Wonder why you haven't heard a peep from the usual ranters (and you know who I'm talking about) about the socialist Muslim Kenyan's scheme that can't be changed, can't even be negotiated (sort of like some famous letters of transit, signed by Gen. DeGaulle himself). Cast your gaze upon this analysis:

Isn't that peachy? The wealthy made out like bandits under the Republican proposal. They make out even better under the Obama/Republican plan. Let's just empty the Treasury into the pockets of the affluent, because the rest of us are going to get an extra $25 or $100 a month! And it doesn't have to be paid for, because . . . Well, never you mind about that!

11. from the article
"The question, at the end of the day, is whether stopping them from getting it is worth cutting benefits for the unemployed, and tax cuts for middle-income Americans, and the Earned Income Tax Credit. I don't think it is . . ."

47. Since he puts it that way, I'll just comment that getting those benefits
for the unemployed, the tax cuts for middle-income Americans, and the Earned Income Tax Credit at the cost of giving up the taxes gained by letting the cuts expire is akin to getting a b.j. from a person with syphillis. It feels really good right now, but the future ain't so bright. Know what I mean?

And wait until next Spring when Obama has announced he will increase tax income and remove loopholes from the tax system. (He has already raised as an example of loophole, the mortgage interest exemption.)

12. Note that the 2 lowest tax brackets are facing a tax INCREASE under this plan.
The compromise trades the Make Work Pay credit for the SS payroll cut which raises the taxes of people make less than $20K. And threatens their future Social Security.

16. No, the country does not "make out better". That money ends up getting BORROWED
to fund our endless war, hand out corporate subsidies and the like, while they use the bigger deficit to cut Social Security, medicare and every other social program we have. Then we'll be paying the interest on that borrowed money fo decades to come. It will bring economic ruin to America.

40. How exactly do you "make out better" when you don't pay your bills?
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 07:07 PM by liberation
Apparently, some Dems have discovered the same "money tree" that the GOP has been using to justify runaway government deficit. If you guys would be kind to point towards where that mythical tree which grows money is located, I could most definitively use a couple of leaves.

BTW, there is no such thing as a "tax cut" when a government operates under a deficit, there are "increased debt and compounded interest to make up for" however. But I guess that is not as marketable...

17. no, let's all reject it- ridicule it- posture about it, and wait till the republicans
take their seats in Jan, and see the wonderful bill that we get as a result.

The wealthy will surely be made to pay their fair share then.

Pres. Obama pointed out that this bill would only add to the deficit. He also place the blame for that squarely on the shoulders of the Republicans who wouldn't budge on anything without their holy grail- the tax cuts for the rich. But lets not repeat THAT truth. Let's find ways to bash the President, even if we know we'll end up accepting the plan anyway.

What's the matter with us?

21. The Republicans are unstoppable!
There's no way the Democratic majority in the Senate could control the agenda, or place holds, or filibuster. And there's surely no conceivable system by which the President could decline to sign every bill that comes across his desk. He'd have to have some kind of super duper legislation stopping power! I don't even know what you could call it.

Besides, how in the world could the narrative be changed now that it's set? Democratic leaders would have to, what? I can't see any way they'd get an alternative aired or broadcast to the ruinous message that's being peddled now.

It's hopeless. Might as well do what the Republicans want, because they're unstoppable. I see it all so clearly now. Thanks.

36. What the Republicans do beginning in January is their problem.
What the Democrats do is my problem. That is because I am a Democrat.

This policy does not make sense in terms of economics. We will have a light improvement in the economy because of the stimulus of 2008, but this tax cut is going to hurt most parts of the country, most people in the country very much.

That is because the tax cut money will not be invested in creating jobs in the US. It will be invested abroad.

I say just let the damn tax cuts EXPIRE! Because what is proposed is much worse.

And when the teabaggers come in, let them rant about the deficits....maybe they won't be so inclined to give the rich their tax cuts.

If Obama has to call in Clinton, mr. let's get rid of Glass-Stegall, then I know there's something wrong, something fishy, something anti-regular Americans.

I understand that I just used a curse word on DU, CAPITALIST (ughh, oh my god, waagggg!). But if WE want to affect positive change, more of US must take over the reigns of the money machine. Republicans get more back under the Bush plan and the Obama-GOP plan because MORE of them are wealthy business people than US. Complaining and railing on the DU won't change that dynamic.
