A Senate vote that supposedly was going to happen on Wednesday was put off because Susan Collins was still raising procedural objections with Harry Reid. Are these serious negotiations, or merely theater--the latest excuse to block repeal of DADT without saying so directly? Also, Senate Republicans promised earlier that they'd obstruct everything else until they got their tax cuts for the wealthy. At this point it's not clear that the Obama-GOP deal will pass--will the Senate GOP allow DADT to come to a vote?
In other news, former senator Sam Nunn (D-GA), who was a leader against Bill Clinton's efforts to allow gays to serve openly in 1993, now says that it's okay to have gays in the military. Just a little bit late, Sam.
Speaking of DADT--at the time it passed, it was an improvement over the status quo, and it represented a compromise. So, given that this country was built on compromise, was it a reasonable thing to do at the time? Or maybe not every compromise is a good thing...
