Senate Cloture Vote on Extending Only Middle Class Tax cut fails. NEW INFO. NOT JUST A DUPLICATE
I propose that that we contact the demodratic senators who voted against the bill, that each member on DU send an e-mail, or call, them to go on record with your disapproval. If you live in their state get others to do it too. If you know any groups in their states, try getting them to ask their members to do likewise. This needs to be done over quickly if we hope for any impact.

I know the republicans still can filibuster, but it will be squarely on their shoulders. There are a few who may succumb to the pressure.

My other proposal is for us to all send e-mails to President Obama telling him to fight, and advertise, this one. Tell him there is no gray area here, the rich will survive, and it will help reduce the national debt.

These Democrats voted NAY: ($250,000 annually)

Joe Lieberman (I-CT … yes, we know he’s not really a Democrat, but he caucuses with them)

Joe Manchin (Dino-WV)

Ben Nelson (Dino-NE)

Jim Webb (Dino-VA)

Russ Feingold (D-WI)

The group of five Democrats who voted NAY on the second amendment ($1 million annually) differed a bit from the first.

Russ Feingold and Joe Lieberman cast their second NAY vote, this time joined by

Dick Durbin (D-IL)

Jay Rockefeller (D-WV)

Tom Harkin (D-IA)

I know it may seem a stupidly optimistic waste of time, but we have to try.

1. why isn't the proper play forcing the gop to actually filibuster? Keep one guy
talking over the weekend and into next week so that the length of the filibuster become the lead news item each night? And each night it would be explained that the republican is blocking passage of a middle class tax cut? it would be clear who is doing what.

Really don't understand.

This way, it appears that the senate as a whole, not just republicans, are failing at passage of the House bill.

3. This is an actual filibuster. This vote is a filibuster.
That's all a filibuster is. Debate is not ended, so the motion cannot be put on the floor for consideration.

2. Keep in mind, at least 1 D has to vote no in a failure
so that they can reintroduce later.

4. I have been gone all day and I
logged on to DU to find out what had happened today with the vote. I'm not surprised by liberman's vote, nor ben nelson's. Why don't they just admit it and change their party affliation to R? Did Durbin, Rockefeller, and Harkin vote No on the second amendment ($1 Million) because they thought this number was too high and wanted it to remain at $250,000? I am so disgusted with the Senate, especially the damn repukes. Such selfish bastards!!!

5. So lets say the gop successfully kept everyone from getting a tax cut as described
in the current bill.

How are dem leaders and pundits going to be sure that the country knows what the gop is doing? How are we going to make the gop pay politically for this? A mass stampede to sunday talk shows? A presidential address? A press conference by senate dem leaders?

Unless I see mass messaging on this, I will be even more disappointed than I already am.

6. What has happened to Durbin and Feingold?
These used to be liberal votes in the upper chamber. This also follows Durbin's "yes" vote on the Catfood Commission, yesterday - can someone explain this?

Very sad. Very mad!
