Photos of shelter animals lead to probe

In the left photo posted on Facebook, a sedated cat was posed with a cigarette in its mouth, a knife between its paws and headphone earbuds. The right photo shows a cat with a pen in its mouth.


Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating several animal shelter employees after a staffer posted Facebook photos of animals that had been tranquilized and posed for what appears to be a joke. In this photo, accompanied with the caption "Angry kitty wants to write you a note", a cat was posed with a pen in its mouth. Police didn't respond to requests for an interview Tuesday or answer questions about who was involved or what action may be taken against the employees.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating several animal shelter employees after a staffer posted Facebook photos of animals that had been tranquilized and posed for what appears to be a joke.

The photos apparently were posted during the summer but came to light Monday night, when Charlotte City Council members received an update on the case.

Council members were told that police have conducted an investigation of three employees at Animal Care and Control, a division of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
