Palin book sets out her "commonsense" platform
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN2314845820101123

NEW YORK, Nov 23 (Reuters) - If seeing Sarah Palin as a cable television pundit and a reality show star has Americans wondering who she is, her new book makes her case that she is not just a celebrity but a politician -- one with what clearly sounds like plans for a White House run.

In "America by Heart," published on Tuesday by HarperCollins, the former Alaska governor aligns herself with the Tea Party movement and takes shots at both Democrats and Republicans. Without saying if she will run for president in 2012, she states her positions in a manner not unlike a campaign platform.

She believes federal taxes are a Washington "power grab" which should abolished, wants prayers allowed in schools and wants to overturn what President Barack Obama sees as his biggest legislative achievement -- healthcare reform.

"The reason for books like this is to lay the groundwork for a potential presidential candidacy," said Thomas Schwartz, history professor at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

3. She's not running.
She's just trying to deliver the tea party vote and a sizeable womens vote to the Republican nominee. that's what she's doing.

She's not dumb, she knows she cant win.

Just hot air and free publicity.

6. People can pray all they want in school. Just be quiet about it.
Jeez, if a Muslim or a Hindu was as pushy as a Christian, there'd be burning crosses and slashed tires everyplace.

18. Absolutely. I get so sick of that lie
that people can't pray in school. Sure they can. They can't disrupt class with it, and they can't make anyone else pray with them.

As I recall, Christ had a few things to say about people who insist on praying publicly so everyone could see how pious they were.

19. As long as there are tests in school, there will be prayer in school.
They just are upset because Christianity isn't institutionalized and the students can't evangelicalize/prostelyze.

17. Thought her schtick was the "nonsense platform," actually...
If she's taking shots at both sides, even the moderates, that might shrink her "pool" a bit. Not that this would be a bad thing. Most of the country (even the traditional Repug constituency) seems to think she's off her rocker anyway, judging by some of her approval numbers.
