There was a panel meeting to help guide NYS Education Commissioner Steiner in his decision about granting the waiver she needs to run the schools.

After meeting with Black, the panel recommended to deny the waiver. I must say I am shocked; especially given that 4 of the eight members of the panel had close ties to Mayor Bloomberg.

I guess they could not stomach rubber stamping the waiver with so much public pressure.

This really affirms my faith that when average citizens stand strong we can affect change.

Now the fight isn't over since the Commissioner still has to make his official decision. However, if the public keeps up the pressure, I don't see how he can grant the waiver.
