End of American dream a nightmare for Obama
I personally think Obama declaring he will not run for a second term is bull crap but I thought I would let you know this is out there.

"As was bound to happen, an article has just appeared, in the Washington Post and so in a respected, mainstream newspaper, calling on President Barack Obama to declare he will not run for re-election in 2012." - Richard Gwyn

6. Well... not race per se...
but I think there are lots of people who just feel that Pres. Obama just looks wrong for the job.

If you asked them if they don't think a black man should be president, they'd be insulted.

But.

They'd say he just looks wrong

7. Nonsense. People are happier when they have job security.
Jobs, not fears, and realistic expectations for a better future would make people happy.

Fear of the present, fear of government taking away benefits and personal freedoms scare people.

20. I think Pres Obama's race...
was an attraction to voters, a novelty to a lot of people, but the reality of actually have a black man in a position of that much authority makes some people vaguely uneasy.

Racism is too strong a word, but it's there... just under cover.

Another poster asked - foolishly I think - if I'm one of those people. Most definitely not. I could actually be accused of reverse racism. I actually love the idea of having someone in office whose race makes many of the majority feel uncomfortable.

25. Personallly, I think that is an easy way out.
But we have learned on DU that it doesn't serve any purpose to argue about it.

You have your view, and I have mine.

Sadly, it is the country that suffers, and poor people most of all.

11. You know why he looks wrong for the job?
Because he's got his nose in the air all the time, giving the strong impression that he views us all as his lessers and our concerns unimportant. And the behavior we have seen over the last two years strongly reinforces the impression, that not only is he uninterested in mixing with us, the great unwashed, but that we don't even figure into his agenda at all.

little did we know that the aspirations were entirely about self-promotion and the inspiration was his ego alone

27. Becuase
While race is not everything, you cannot deny that race does fuel a lot of anti-Obama dislike, just as sex fueled anti-Hillary dislike. As someone who reads DU, you have to see the threads on an almost daily basis where someone thinks Obama is still Kenyan.

No this does not excuse the fact that he morphed into Bill Clinton 2.0, but the fact is, a minority doing a white man's job will always have a rougher time, because the majority does not want to admit they are not special people. Nobody would have called Scalia a "hot tempered Italian", but Sotomayor got called aa "hot tempered latina" and people just sipped their coffee.

12. Thirty years
of deregulation, Wall Street profiteering, outrageous income inequality, unjust taxation,
unnecessary war, rampant graft in the Congress, job exportation and a bank-created destruction of
the capitalist system.

All of this is irrelevant!

It's Obama's fault!

15. A nightmare for Obama? The guy with the book royalties,
paid government pension, not to mention that speaking fees he's going to command when he leaves office.

A nightmare for him?

How about the folks who are homeless? The folks who don't have food? The folks who are filing for bankruptcy because they cannot pay their medical bills. It is a nightmare for workers, not for the elite like Obama.

websites.

Face it, President Obama will *never* live up to any of your expectations.

18. Guess that "hope" and "change" thing has worked out for you
over the last two years; for many others, not so much. I think that some of the disdain he's elicited is well-deserved under the general heading of "kum ba ya" with the Pukes and the media they control and hence the fear they control. It's ALL about the jobs that can support AAMERICAN families, NOT IRAQI/AFGANI/INDIAN/PAKISTANI, or any other nation's, and health CARE, NOT ONE'S SHARE TO THE INSURANCE/PHARMA CORPORATE INSURANCE BIGWIGS, when your share has been denied due to DISCRIMINATION on account of age, mild disability, race, sexual orientation, religion, participation in LEGAL activities, and general subjective appearance, i.e. profiled, stereotyped, labeled, then groped in the name of safety of airlines.

Oh, the terrorists are around, alright, but they look more and more like judges, politicians, bankers, and brownshirt enforcers administering their two-tier systems of corruption and deceit.

24. I find it interesting that the "end of the American dream" article was juxtaposed
with a poll asking the paper's Canadian readership if it planned to make a visit to the U.S. to shop on "Black Friday".

Apparently we're still Number One in shopping. :-)
