Officials with the 82nd Airborne Division are broadcasting statistics about paratroopers who are arrested for drinking and driving in an effort to make soldiers think twice before breaking the law.
The division's safety sign, a longstanding fixture on Gruber Road across from the 82nd Airborne Division's headquarters, has been displaying weekly drunken-driving statistics since late August, said Matt Kettell, the division's deputy director of safety.
The sign lists the blood-alcohol content for each soldier charged the previous week and sorts them by unit. Soldiers' names aren't shown.
On Nov. 10, the sign displayed BAC levels for seven soldiers charged the first week of the month. The blood-alcohol levels ranged from 0.08 - North Carolina's legal limit - to 0.20. The soldiers belonged to three different units, with two each from the 1st and 3rd Brigade Combat teams and three belonging to the 4th Brigade Combat Team.
Kettell said that when soldiers see their unit with multiple drunken-driving charges, they'll be reminded that there is room for improvement.
