Poll question: If we had term limits on his seat, Rep Rangel would be innocent. Your thoughts?
I was thinking, one side benefit of term limits could be that no congressman would get comfy enough in their seat to the point of corruption.

So if Rangel had been term limited out, he wouldn't have been corrupted.

Your thoughts?

1. Lots of long-term reps haven't had corruption problems. It's the person.

2. But he wasn't always corrupt
Something made him change...

Granted, you also have a great point.

I'm just scratching my head here...

5. I agree. With term limits, he would most likely have been a corrupt lobbyist.

3. The only term limits we need are elections.
Anything else is anathema to the concept of democracy.

6. WTF term limits was a wing nut wet dream of the 90's to stop D's from being re-elected
thus opening up seats for R candidates. What was really amusing was after the R's got term limit law's the first thing they tried was to end term limits. That was how a president got term limited on 2 terms a life time, they were afraid another FDR would be elected, it was rather amusing how they used George Washington as the reason presidents to set president that the first president only served 2 terms, what they left out was Washington didn't want a third term.

Imagine a Clinton third term, though on the down side Reagan could have had a third term as well, there was even talk from the R's to end the two term limit for Reagan because they really didn't want papa Bush as president. The sad thing about term limits is not every state has them which means those states congress critters get to have seats on committees that make law's and decide what gets put before congress and what doesn't, which has helped the R's very well since term limits were enacted in some states.

Every time I hear anyone say term limits I am reminded of Limpballs being all for term limits back in the 90's, pretty sad when you hear DU members repeating Limpballs garbage 20 years later. I'm not calling anyone out on anything, I'm just saying that term limits are as right wing as it gets. If an R came up with anything it always ends badly for we the people, besides, don't I have the right to vote for the person of my choice and not someone who is just the lesser of 2 evils because the guy who was protecting me from the evil R's was term limited out of office. You wonder how blue dogs got so many members in office, think term limits.
