US Navy And More LCS Ships
unhappycamper note: Since the ‘Pentagon’ (Righthaven LLC? Gannett?) has ‘requested’ that I only post one paragraph from articles on Army Times, and Airforce Times, To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.
To read the article in the military's own words, you will need to click the link.

Read all about Fair Use here. It sure is beginning to smell like fascism.

unhappycamper summary of this article: Keep in mind that the LCSs in the original Deepowater Program estimated the cost for these bad boys to be around $200 million. Oh yeah, these bad boys certainly are affordable:

$584 million dollars:

$704 million dollars:

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead has told Congress the time is now for lawmakers to change rules to allow the Navy to buy both Littoral Combat Ship designs.

CNO to Congress on LCS: 'We're Going To Have To Act'
By CHRISTOPHER P. CAVAS
Published: 16 Nov 2010 18:52

The current authorization from Congress is to choose one design as the basis for ten ships now, another five ships in 2012, and a total of as many as 51 new ships in coming years. But Navy officials revealed on Nov. 3 that the service, which has been angling for 14 months to downselect to one design, now wants to return to an earlier strategy and buy both types. The reason, service officials insist, is that the competition between Lockheed and Austal USA has made both designs more affordable, and both designs have features the Navy likes.
