Murkowski Wins

Posted Tuesday, November 16, 2010 9:46 PM | By David Weigel

It's all over but the conceding. The newest vote count in Alaska's U.S. Senate race puts the number of uncontested write-in votes for Lisa Murkowski at 92,715; the number of votes for Republican candidate Joe Miller is 90468, not counting the 20 write-in votes he received. Murkowski bests Miller by 2,247 votes, or around 0.88 percent, even if Miller wins his legal challenges and knocks out the 8,153 Murkowski votes being contested. Add those in and she wins by 4.08 percent.

And so Lisa Murkowski will return to the Senate for six years beholden to neither party, the second senator in modern times to win as a write-in candidate. Instead of a nepotistic hold-over from the pre-Palin era, she's the most popular politician in Alaska.

I disagree. Being a Republican partisan, even if she goes into the senate as an independent, she'll likely caucus with those bastards, the GOP.

19. She is neither "as bad", nor "worse" than Joe Miller. That makes her better.
I'm aware of her record, and she's terrible.

However, in every possible way, Joe Miller is worse.

For example: Joe Miller wants to force victims of rape and incest to bring a pregnancy to term. Joe Miller thinks Social Security is unconstitutional. Joe Miller thinks unemployment insurance is unconstitutional.

Better her thank Joe.

20. Its the difference between being dead wrong and dead crazy.
But yea, if we can't pick up the seat, I'd rather have the dead wrong run of the mill conservative than the dead crazy teabagger. Plus it will piss Palin off, which is always nice.

5. Miller would have, too, & he's the one with strange notions about the Constitution.

8. Palin LOST. Alaska is rejecting her.
That's what's important.

10. I dunno
Seems to me Joe Miller would be a bigger wild card for the Thugs than Rand Paul and cause them a lot of trouble. Murkowski will just go lockstep with everything they do. She's hardly Joe Lieberman.

13. But will she support filibusters?
She could vote with the Democrats on procedural matters, which could be one way to make filibusters by the Reactionary Party more difficult.

Try to purge her and you might pay the price.

I don't hold out any hope that she'll be any different.

6. Murkowski's lead more than 10,000 votes
http://www.adn.com/2010/11/16/1557873/murkowskis-lead-more-than-10000.html

Today's review of write-in ballots ended with Sen. Lisa Murkowski enjoying an apparently insurmountable 10,420-vote lead over Joe Miller.

Murkowski also now has collected more votes that went unchallenged by Miller ballot observers than Miller's total vote count. That makes it appear as though Miller's lawsuit to seeking to toss out misspelled votes is irrelevant, since there aren't enough of those for him to win.

The Division of Elections has now counted a total of 100,868 votes for Murkowski. Miller has 90,448.

11. Guess Joe won't be needing that furniture after-all.
Guess Palin has a lot less clout within Alaskan Republican politics than she thought.

18. yep!
I know that some of SP's picks in the House made it, but much better to see them there than in the Senate.

I also see problems with the governors as well, but hell, Swarzenegger served two terms in CA, and while he came close to destroying the state, it's still there.

Hell, several of the worst troublemakers in the country come from CA, which sucks, like Issa and Dreier--the latter of which was my own personal nightmare in LA. When Out magazine did its job, Dreier disappeared into the woodwork for quite some time, but he's still brooding about a lot of things.

She did not quit.

The vicious Grifter, Lady Blah Blah tried to destroy Murkowski and fugged herself royally. This is hilarious. Has the twit tweeted about this yet?

23. I never thought I'd be happy that a Rethug wins anything...
...but this is an exception. Miller is a fascist hypocrite POS and would have been the worser of these two evils. And this is a big loss for Palin, so that's good enough for me.
