Poll question: Okay - are YOU willing to fly even if it means being groped by TSA?
I will not. The Don't Touch My Junk guy, and Chatterbox mom, combined with the video of the crying little girl (maybe 3 years old) screaming "don't touch, don't touch!" are just too much for me. The story of the pilot who was groped by TSA and then threw up floored me.

All this because of the alleged underwear bomber. We give up our liberties to "protect" against extremely remote risks.

So, no flying. In 2005 I drove across country rather than fly.
Hope this feeling spreads widely, and the airlines are forced to see the impact.

First, the Security Procedures Since Sep 11
have been misguided, intrusive, offensive, and over the top.

Second, anyone changing their life to the point of not flying flying on commercial aircraft any longer is being histrionic.

One the other hand, a decline in ridership might be best way to elicit a change. Once the airlines start feeling the pain financially, they can start exerting political pressure.

I don't think it's histrionic - I think it's vital that everyday Americans who are just trying to live their lives stand up for their personal liberty.

41. I don't find
a) being groped by a stranger and/or

b) unauthorized persons viewing my naked body

are histrionics. Like the poster above, I was also a victim of rape and I can't begin to tell you what kind of PTSD episode an experience like that can bring on. A little more compassion, please. If you can't have empathy and/or compassion perhaps you can resist mislabeling so as to minimize people's concerns.

18. My wife is really upset by the process. She walked into the airport
one Holiday season and watched as her mom and others went through the screening process Her mom wanted her to wait just incase she could take a disney lamp (for the grandkid) on the plane. My wife was dumbfounded.

Too her as her watched from the outside the scene of people taking off shoes and get pat down and bags checked it reminded her of the scene from the Handmaids tale when the women where rounded up before going to the"reeducation."

She can't believe people allowed themselves to be put through all that.

She can understand the metal detector or that metal wand. but in her mind that should be all that needs to be done.

20. I'm an easy NO since I haven't flown in twenty years
I used to love flying, but our last trip was a nightmare of logistics, overcrowded flights, overworked and rude attendants, and other problems. And that was before they minimized seating space, increased security and turned airline passengers into guilty terrorists until found innocent by TSA.

So my future planning for trips will involve trains, ships, and automobiles but no planes. That means if I want to take a trip to Europe or Great Britain, I will have to plan on months rather than weeks and take a ship across. Which would actually be healthier, considering my family history of deep vein thrombosis!

I don't want to put myself through the hassle, so I don't. Solves that problem.
If I didn't have to drive I wouldn't do that, either. But I drive a lot for work and really have to use my car, so other modes of transportation are not an option.

If my family really wants to go to the south or western parts of the US, I might just go along with it. Otherwise, most of my American friends are from areas within a reasonable bus/train distance from where I live. Greyhound/Via Rail/Amtrak it is!

I've only flown twice in the last decade. Once was a work assignment, and once was to attend the funeral of a dear friend. Work and/or emergencies would be the only reasons to fly commercial in the future - it's a miserable experience, anyways - getting groped might actually be the high point, for me.

I'll be out of a job pretty fast if I refuse to fly. That doesn't mean I approve of what they're doing.

Honestly, I'm a little tired of people boldly declaring never to fly again when they fly at most every few years for pleasure.

46. It's going to get worse in February, when a new California law goes into effect
Ammunition sellers won't be allowed to sell more than 50 rounds of handgun ammunition at a time to anyone, and anyone who buys handgun ammunition will have to submit a thumbprint.

Insanely stupid, but that's our legislature, and Arnold signed the thing.

I bought a ticket to Vegas for April 2011--BEFORE the TSA perversion.

I only hope TSA gets the message and learns to keep its hands to itself before I get on THAT plane.

If they mess with me on that day in April....forget it. I'm turning around and going home.

38. Fuck that shit. I like where I am just fine. The last time I flew was for an extreme family issue.
My cousin died, and I flew up to the Bay Area for his funeral.

I had a vivid dream last night, and he was in it. We talked about a lot of things. He had a wonderful bluntness. If he thought something was bullshit, he wouldn't make any attempt to sugar-coat his opinion.

My girlfriend has had tickets for quite some time now. we will use them. After that I will be personally boycotting all airlines. They are treating us like fucking criminals. I will never be subject to their bullshit again. I hope that we as a nation can all ban together and crush them financially. Until they treat passengers with dignity, I don't think anyone should fly.
