Passenger becomes internet sensation for telling US airport security 'don't touch my junk'
US airport security is facing growing anger from the public at new anti-terrorism screening procedures considered invasive and harmful.

By Alex Spillius in Washington 7:00AM GMT 16 Nov 2010

A software engineer has gained national notoriety after posting an internet blog item saying he had been ejected and threatened with a fine for refusing a groin check after turning down a full-body scan at San Diego airport. The passenger, John Tyner, said he told a Transportation Security Administration agent: "If you touch my junk, I'm going to have you arrested."

Tyner's individual protest quickly became an internet sensation, but questions also came from travel business groups, civil liberties activists and pilots, raising concerns both about the procedures themselves and about the possibility of delays caused by passengers reluctant to accept the new procedures.

Thanksgiving Day, a harvest festival, is the fourth Thursday in November in the United States, and marks one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.

Across the country passengers are simmering over being forced to choose scans by full-body image detectors or probing pat-downs. Top federal security officials said that the procedures were safe and necessary sacrifices to ward off terror attacks.

1. Good for him. He's not the only one to refuse this abuse.
This country has gone insane. This airline pilot also refused to be abused and may lose his job. I really think they are trying to find out just how much abuse people will tolerate and the more people accept the further they will push.

Pilot Refuses Full-Body Scan, Says It Would Violate His Rights

Michael Roberts, a first officer with ExpressJet Airlines, refused to submit to a full-body scan and then to a pat-down by Transportation Security Administration officials on Friday, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported. He left Memphis International Airport without boarding a plane.

Roberts, who has worked for ExpressJet for more than four years, was wearing a pilot's uniform and identification at the time.

The security procedures left him with the choice of being physically assaulted or having his privacy violated, Roberts said.

"I was trying to avoid this assault on my person, and I'm not willing to have images of my nude body produced for some stranger in another room to look at either," Roberts told CNN.

Sue the bastards who think they can treat the public like criminals. This has gone way too far. Osama Bin Laden must be laughing his head off at what he has accomplished. I am glad to see that people are drawing a line in the sand.

The creepy Michael Chertoff, has a stake in this scanners which is the real reason why they are being used and the people are being forced to use them. When they were opposed, the claimed people have a choice, that choice being abusive mauling by so-called security people. Of all people to be involved in the security of the American people, the man who was in charge when Hurricane Katrina killed hundreds of citizens because of his failure to deal with the situation.

Group slams Chertoff on scanner promotion

WASHINGTON - Since the attempted bombing of a US airliner on Christmas Day, former Homeland Security secretary Michael Chertoff has given dozens of media interviews touting the need for the federal government to buy more full-body scanners for airports.

What he has made little mention of is that the Chertoff Group, his security consulting agency, includes a client that manufactures the machines. Chertoff disclosed the relationship on a CNN program Wednesday, in response to a question.

An airport passengers’ rights group on Thursday criticized Chertoff’s use of his former government credentials to advocate for a product that benefits his clients.

“Mr. Chertoff should not be allowed to abuse the trust the public has placed in him as a former public servant to privately gain from the sale of full-body scanners under the pretense that the scanners would have detected this particular type of explosive,’’ said Kate Hanni, founder of FlyersRights.org, which opposes the use of the scanners.

There is simply no end to the sleaziness of these ghouls. This is not about security, it's about their disgusting and never-ending determination to continue to profit from 9/11. All of them belong in jail. There are no adequate words to describe these monsters.

The tsa agents will line up, you'll get to pick your massage therapist, and you'll have to pay for it. Can I see their body scans before I choose one?

5. Listen to the outraged cop in the background, at around 8:30, he deserves a medal.
Something like "In my 40 years of being a police officer I have never encountered..."

8. I wonder when enough citizens will speak out and stop this paranoia.
Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 07:59 AM by Jamastiene
The stuff they are doing nowadays goes beyond security. It's downright paranoia.

I still cannot get over that video of the little girl being patted down. It has reached the point of absurdity that someone is groping a scared, crying little girl who is clearly uncomfortable with being touched all over her little body by a complete stranger. *cringe* :puke: :scared:

When does it all end? All in the name of security, how much further are they going to go? Is there any way they can be rolled back to reasonable security measures?

26. Yes, and I mean it when I say, I would rather be dead
than live in the kind of country they are turning this into. Whatever happened to 'give me freedom or give me death'?

I think people are standing up. Many groups are organizing against these scanners and in fact, they have been meeting with opposition for years. So now, they just went ahead and did it without warning claiming you have a choice, a sick groping by a Governemt employee if you refuse their scan. Chertoff has to make his money, so they will push those machines on people. Not to mention the risk of cancer.

What a nightmare this all is. What cowards the American people have turned out to be, willing to accept the complete loss of freedom for fear of something that may never happen and is far less of a threat to life, than not having Health Care coverage.

Both nice chopped 4-word phrases. Weird.

19. Anyone thought maybe they have definitive information
about a possible attack in this fashion, someone inserting an explosive...gross I know. There has to be a reason for this procedure.

This has made sure I would drive instead of flying.

28. The feds are now investigating him...
because he had the gall to actually exercise his 4th amendment rights. How dare he!

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/nov/15/tsa-probe-scan-resistor/

The Transportation Security Administration has opened an investigation targeting John Tyner, the Oceanside man who left Lindbergh Field under duress on Saturday morning after refusing to undertake a full body scan.

Know Your Rights Lyrics
-The Clash

This is a public service announcement
With guitar
Know your rights all three of them

Number 1
You have the right not to be killed
Murder is a CRIME!
Unless it was done by a
Policeman or aristocrat
Know your rights

And Number 2
You have the right to food money
Providing of course you
Don't mind a little
Investigation, humiliation
And if you cross your fingers
Rehabilitation

Know your rights
These are your rights
Wang

Know these rights

Number 3
You have the right to free
Speech as long as you're not
Dumb enough to actually try it.

Know your rights
These are your rights
All three of 'em
It has been suggested
In some quarters that this is not enough!
Well..............................

Get off the streets
Get off the streets
Run
You don't have a home to go to
Smush

Finally then I will read you your rights

You have the right to remain silent
You are warned that anything you say
Can and will be taken down
And used as evidence against you

Listen to this
Run
