To fuck around with DADT? Why did they waste time?
I can't figure out why they are now acting like it is ok for gates to come out in favor od DADT.

Something stinks and doesn't make sense. Help me understand.

1. They got a buy in from the Pentagon if they gave them time and some Senators (don't know who)

said they would vote to repeal it if they waited until after the study (per Biden on Rachel).

There weren't 60 votes to repeal it otherwise. Think about how hard it is to get 60 votes on anything.

I wonder how many votes they would have if they hadn't worked to get Gates and Mullen on board? I bet not as many.

They figured they needed to get the military on board or there was no way they could get it past a filibuster in the Senate.

The question as to why did they wasted time is whether they actually had the votes to do it earlier. I doubt it.

Unless he can pull another win a d get the house back with senate gains.

If not I don't see it happening for another 15 to 20 years unless we get another dem after Obama.

6. They thought they had time until early Jan 2010, when it became clear Scott Brown could win in MA.
They couldn't do anything from then until he actually won, because the Senate was in recess.

After that, the Republicans had the vote to block anything they wanted.
