So said the membership coordinator of the House of Blues here in Cleveland as she spoke of her chains exclusive membership room that featured access to the performers, celebrities and a chef with a menu that is not available to the regular people...
Who wants to mingle with the hoi polloi when you can mingle with the Hoity-toity...
Especially here in Cleveland since the House of Blues swept into town and basically demanded that the cash rocked city give up any tax revenue form the building for 20 years...
Tax free, interest free zones, buy out clauses...
I'd sure love to get that kind of help but I guess you have to be rich in order to get the deals that cities across the country are throwing at all kinds of developers hoping that people will locate in their city so they can tax the hell out of the people who eat and play there.
Speaking of swank, just up the road at Jacobs Field, oh excuse me Progressive Field, there is an exclusive chef run restaurant at the field where the millionaire ball players cavort. You have to be a member to get into this joint as well. The cost of the city to build this "public" stadium? 181 million in tax abatements and a twenty year sales tax collected by everyone buying anything here in Cuyahoga County.
Almost the same deal to keep the Cavaliers and the Browns Downtown and in fancy digs.
We pay for it, we subsidize it and yet they charge just as much to see mediocre teams that we had before when the owners picked up the tab.
Oh by the way, do you think the House of Blues cut prices on their menu to reflect the money they don't have to pay to the city. Get real, this is America where business is king and the people are well, fodder for the war on themselves.
You supply the bread and the cost of the circus. My how we have evolved from Roman Times...
