Greenspan at Jekyll Island: The banks robbed you (Market Ticker)
This post contains a very short clip - if anyone can find a longer one, I'd be very interested in what else was said, before and after this. I looked, but came up with nothing.

The clip is from a Federal Reserve conference this past week at Jekyll Island, GA... where the Fed began 100 years ago.

Greenspan uses the "F" word - fraud. Watch the subtle body language of Bernancke and Gerald Corrigan (to the left of screen) as he's speaking.

1. Greenspan was too stupid to realize that the infamous "invisible hand" of the "free" market
was picking the pockets of the American people. I'll bet he believes in pixie dust and fairies as well.

5. Nope, he helped guide that "invisible hand"
As Kharma Train points out downthread, Greenspan was one of those who made conditions possible for the banks to rob us. He should be in prison right along with those thieves.

2. He's The New McNamera...
There's an excellent Frontline program that really rips Big Al down to size for his role in gutting regulations, ignoring any enforcement of laws and helping overheat the market and then after it collapsed to say "my bad". Call it plausible deniability as it was his policies that turned the markets into gambling casinos and he kept upping the ante.

If he wants to see fraud, all he needs do is look in the mirror! What he says now means zero after this economy has collapsed based on his says so. May there be a little bit of contrition in what he says...

4. Plug for the Jekyll Island Hotel and Club in coastal Georgia
Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 08:12 AM by aikoaiko
The Jekyll Island Club began its life as a private club (a hunting club) for the upper business class back in the early 1900s. It is where the Federal Reserve was born.

Now, the Jekyll Island Hotel and Club is a National Landmark and is being restored piece by piece. I go there for a conference every summer and enjoy it. It feels like a movie from the Great Gatsby. Its fun for the family too. There is a Sea Turtle Sanctuary on the property and a waterslide park nearby. Jekyll Island is not as built up as Hilton Head or St Simons and not as kitschy as Tybee.

8. Yes
Jekyll Island sucks. When I was there some kid hit my daughter in the head with the golf ball. I had to force that elite snob to apologize or I would make him follow behind the horse drawn buggies with a shovel. He decided apologizing to his sister was the better idea, then he volunteered to go get an icepack. When he came back, my daughter apologized for thinking it was a good idea to run in front of him, as he was swinging.

So stay away parents let their kids run wild there.
