Suspect now says he let stolen dog loose in park

(11-09) 17:26 PST ALAMEDA -- A robbery suspect who told police he had sold a Yorkshire terrier stolen from an 80-year-old Alameda woman now says he released it in a Stockton park, police said Tuesday.

Christopher Perkins, 19, admitted that he let the dog, a 6-year-old male named Deuce, go free in Holiday Park in Stockton on Nov. 2, Alameda police Lt. Sean Lynch said.

That was three days after two men robbed Helen Bignone of her purse and the dog.

"We can't know for certain, but based on information we have, we believe there's a strong likelihood that he released the dog in the park," Lynch said.

Alameda police have notified police and animal control officials in Stockton and elsewhere in San Joaquin County, but the animal has not turned up despite promises of a reward, Lynch said.
