Reef the sails-batten the hatches
Being all for full disclosure I will freely admit I'm probably to the left of most DU'ers so my perspective on the state
of the United States of America might not jibe with the majority here. I don't view politics as a tribal contest like football but as a pragmatic exercise about results. Even though I'm a lefty I have supported Democratic candidates with volunteer efforts my whole life as an example my own pragmatism. I cried when Obama was elected and had high hopes for his Presidency. Just the fact that a non-white could be elected was amazing to me and speaks volumes for the progress we have made over my lifeti

I'm not going to Demonize Obama or the Democratic Party for the failure.. From my perspective it's clear that a political system based on money will always have the same results in the end. If I go door knocking again how do I tell someone who lost their job and home while the bankers waxed fat that they are better off with Democrats? How do I tell Hispanics who work for starvation wages and have seen their pay cut 30% in the last two tears to vote DFL. Look all voters have one question- "Whats in it for me?" DU'ers know all the reasons for the failures already, because they are an intelligent and curious lot-but I know longer believe that things can be changed at the ballot box. This after after 40 years of electioneering.

It is clear that the fascist are out to destroy the country in any way they can in order to pick up the pieces and the traditional liberal approach has been a failure. Our justice system is a joke. Mark Hurlberts refusal to prosecute a wealth fund manager in Colorado speaks volumes about where America is. The FBI raids on peace activists trail leads right to Holder, who just gave the CIA a pass on doc detruction. This is just the start of the storm. It will get much worse as the administration tacks to the right.

2. You had me until your last sentence, even with your rather liberal interpretation of punctuation
and grammar.

You speak much truth - the two-party money-based system is entirely fucked up. Look at the amount of money spent this last election: it's (almost) impossible to run for office if you're a normal person unless you sell your soul to the folks with the money.

That's fucking insane, and a totally rotten way to run a country. It's fucks us all.

I will say, though - even though it's not at all helpful, and not a convincing argument - that if someone else had been president (that is, McCain), the unemployment and financial/economic crisis would be almost beyond imagining and even more damaging to the regular folk of this country. I know, it's hard to offer that as a good explanation when knocking on doors - but it IS true.

I wish Obama had just told the Republicans to go fuck themselves on Jan 21, 2009, and done what his voters wanted him to do. It's always been clear that the repukes have no interest, intent, or desire to compromise, work together, or come to consensus - their only goal is to stop whatever is proposed by anyone with a D after their name, especially a black guy. While I can respect Obama's idealism in thinking " we can all work together!!!" I am angry at him for actually thinking that republicans have any interest at all in working together.
