The misadventures of the Boeing 787
WASHINGTON — A Boeing 787 test flight made an emergency landing on Tuesday in Texas with smoke in the cabin, a high-profile incident that puts additional scrutiny on the company's jetliner of the future.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the two-engine Dreamliner was on final approach to the Laredo airport and landed safely. Those aboard exited via emergency chutes.

It was unclear if anyone was hurt or what caused the smoke.

Boeing did not respond immediately to a request for comment. ............(more)

3. ... and how much money is India spending to buy Boeing products?
... POTUS announced that deal over the weekend (I think) ... 'creating jobs' (for Boeing) and stabilizing the economy (for Boeing shareholders) ...

4. It was a serious fire
from the Seattle Times:

"A serious in-flight fire in the electric equipment bay of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight test plane forced an emergency landing in Laredo, Texas, Tuesday. All aboard were safely evacuated on slides.

The fire affected the cockpit controls and the jet lost its primary flight displays and its auto-throttle, according to a person familiar with the incident. The flight and engine controls, which on the Dreamliner are all-electric, weren't fully functional, this person said."

5. No problem.
If Boeing can't make safe airliners, they are still making a shitload of money on F/A-18s, C-5s, Apache helicopters, C-17s, CH-47s and MV-22 Ospreys to name a few.
