Who fired a missile off the California Coast???
Because nearly 24 hours later the public is being told "We don't know."

Got that-with all the intrusive surveillance and billions spent on military hardware SOMEONE fired off a MAJOR rocket just off Catalina Island and it hasn't been tracked, or found, or identified. The same morons who prevent containers over 3 ounces of shampoo of airliners can't identify a rocket launch less than 50 miles off our coast.

Which could have been a mere multi-million dollar snafu by our own military, or a rogue element within it. Worse it could be an unanticipated foreign launch.

But a rocket WAS launched and it was no toy. If an accident by our military then the lack of disclosure is criminal If by a rogue element the scene is way scary. If by a foreign power our intelligence failure is massive. And if by a private group the intelligence failure is worse.

For the last 30 years I believed that NORAD had the ability to track a missile fired anywhere on earth and that having received a track they could estimate both a launch site and impact area, based on the parabola of travel. So this must have been a smaller event than their ability to track.

But their IS radar in California and a shorter range flight should have been tracked.

So either a bunch of people and systems failed of we are being lied to.

Who fired a missile off the California Coast???

1. I thought that was a missle over there by that big ball of fire in the
sky... saw it on the way home... there were several jets in the area that seemed interested in it as well.

8. All I've seen is a contrail
I certainly have seen no "launch" of any kind, nor any actual missile.

I'm open-minded, and will adapt according to new info, but presently the most likely explanation is an airline contrail viewed head-on at sunset.

Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 09:14 PM by jberryhill
Why was it only seen from one angle?

Where are all the other witnesses?

Nobody saw this on Catalina, or out on their boat?

Was there no one else, among millions in the region, who saw this?

43. I saw a contrail just like that this Spring
I could have swore at the time that it was a rocket or missile. It was the freakiest thing, but no one else saw it in my city (I asked on Twitter) so I was resigned to the fact that it had to just be a contrail. My mind sure didn't want to accept that explanation though.

9. I missed the missile, but saw something else last night
Sitting on the couch in Redondo Beach, I saw out our south-facing window a green-blue circular object quickly approaching the earth and appearing to head down to Long Beach or further south. As it approached the horizon, it flashed of and on a couple times and disappeared. Whether it simply went behind the hill or the lights shut off I'm not sure.

The thing didn't look like any aircraft I've ever seen and it was either very close (and completely silent), or going very very fast. Several days before, my wife saw pink and blue flashes of light outside. Has anyone else seen anything funny in the skies over LA lately?

while we were walking on Venice Beach. I thought it was a missile test and did not make much of it until I stumbled on a story about it on the local CBS affiliate's site.

I definitely thought it was a missile plume or contrail. My wife was less sure but thought the angle (70-75% off the Pacific) was very srange.

Jesus, people are dumb. We are being "lied to" because the purpose and existence of the satellite is classified. Hell, it's probably a black project.

Nobody is taking potshots at us. We are doing the shooting. Into orbit.

34. Really, I'm dumb???
Because if I'm doing something clandestine, instead of an unannounced launch seen by millions causing national news stories and consternation I would announce the launch with a cover story since the russians and chinese have the ability to follow a launch to orbit. So that an announced launch would actually draw less interest than an unannounced one....

Do you think that this would have gone unremarked by the military? They KNOW the details. They know the who, what when and where of this incident.

They're just not SAYING for obvious reasons - they're embarrassed by an OBVIOUS fuck-up.

Just hang tight. This can't stay a state secret for long. They're just deciding WHO should get the blame and what the punishment should be for the commander in charge.

20. The event itself is reported in a box
Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 07:52 PM by PATRICK
Supposedly a news helicopter full of the usual media genuises was up there. Other planes as well. No one went to the probable ground source some tens of miles away or see the destination or burnout? No one in the LA area had a camera capable of better closeups rather than the sexy sunset trail on display.

Then, just like the interpreters of the symbolism in 2001 Space Odyssey we have all the aeronautic experts jawing about the boxed video. Finally someone goes for the optical illusion explanation which was neat except it defies the lack of confirmation that would have been readily available.

Where are all the other witness films? Are they all in line at the media networks trying to sell them? Youtube only shows the network awe and wonder trivia?

There seems to be little real news in this country at all but I expected more of LA than this.

The UFO's over NYC were even more cute, but at least the fun solution(school project balloons) was forthcoming(by the school, not any event investigation) for the amusement of one and all.

104. "that kind of trajectory"? WTF?

Uh, assuming you agree that the earth is round, could you explain what path is followed, as viewed from your perspective, when a plane approaches your position at high altitude from over the horizon?

"that kind of trajectory" is entirely dependent on you being in a straight line beneath the path.

51. And... this happens
often in So Cal...

It is part of living here.

Between Vandenberg AF Base, and the Range it is entertaining.

Hell when the Marines play with the arty at Pendleton we KNOW... nothing like a clear day... and thunder.

58. Lol, I didn't mean how many saw the video

How many people saw this?

Surely, the news must be abuzz with eyewitness reports from all over.

Otherwise, it would seem almost as if seeing it depended on being at a specific location, as if some sort of optical effect were involved.

59. Yep, trust me
same thing was said by the AF oh a few years back.

Something broke windows and sent alarms crazee.

It was nothing to fear, but nothing of ours.

I'll share with you what that one looked like.

No this is NOT my photo...

Now I take it you don't live in So Cal? So any explanation will be good enough?

Oh and that one made the nooz just because of them broken windows...

65. We have NASA Wallops Island on the east coast

And several years ago, they aborted a missile launch downrange over the Atlantic. People from VA to Philadelphia saw the contrail and explosion. Thousands of people. I saw it myself, and thought an airplane had exploded.

Something of this size and altitude is seen by a LOT of people.

Have you seen these pictures :

66. And I am sure it was
here is the problem... they have issued their traditional, plays well in socal, non denial, denial.

They do this shit REGULARLY.

I realize that many people don't want to believe that this goes on REGULARLY... but it does.

Most of them don't even hit the news... and when they do... the non denial, denials follow the exact same formula...

"No it is not ours, we don't know what it is... but there is no threat..." The only thing they added was... to the homeland.

Why you can show me all the contrail science you want... when the fucking military issues a non denial, denial... they know what it was... and it wasn't a contrail.

Call me stupid, been here long enough to know them... and smell them. This is the way it is... it is a CLASSIC area for aerospace testing round these parts.

Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 11:31 PM by jberryhill
And since that flight was in that place at that time, it sure is a good thing the missile didn't hit it.

And pretty amazing that everyone else in LA not in the same position as that helicopter weren't looking up.

69. I am sure they planned
look you want to believe this shit don't go on... be my guest.

I know this makes people very uncomfortable... and to be honest this is 99% of UFOs... human activity.

As I said, you want to believe this does not o on... there is nothing I can do.

I know that in oh about four months there will be another incident... and like most of them... will not break the nooze.... but some people will point up to the sky at the pretty things! Or be surprised by the strange boom...

Yep, I am jaded as to this shit. On the bright side, we get to see some wonderful civilian and military (and experimental) contrails every so often. No, they are not dispersing chemicals... and most of the activity round these parts is civilian anyway. Since this story went national I guess our local one will not break for a year or so...

We try to enjoy them and laugh at them denials.

40. I was watching the Blue Angels doing their u-turns etc from my balcony
and even though they were 100% identified objects, there were times when I could not tell if it was 1 or 4, or which direction they were going, or how fast. Also, I grossly underestimated their size, and a couple of times thought they were going to pass between me and another building, only to pass far far on the OTHER side of the building. It was really quite cool!

I should also confess that, after years of saying "who would be stupid enough to confuse Venus for a UFO?", on one occasion I did exactly that :)

Rather then be skeptical of and question the reports of an unexplained missile launch off the coast of California.

Let;s see general direction of the Catalina Weapons Range+ Skunk Works is in the area.... and kept at sea. Did I mention the non denial, denial... nope not one of ours, but damn we are not worried... no threat,

Nope they don't do this often... at all... and it was a contrail.

What is amusing is that in this case some want to buy the official story and the fact that the NOOZE is pushing it hard!

There is a reason why...

Free clue, they test WEAPONS, that includes missiles, at the weapons range. And most folks, INCLUDING the Public Information Officers, are NOT cleared to know.

86. I'm not understanding the "outrage" of it either way...
Perhaps it was the contrail of a plane, or perhaps it was a super secret military test. Neither of those seem all that controversial. We all know that planes fly over us and that our military and its friends test their newest toys.

109. Don't know if it was a missile -- Do know it looked like one to the TV helicopter crew.
Here's a photo of what looks like a contrail made by a UFO.

Puerto Maldonado, Peru, 1951.

They know a lot about stuff in the sky. The TV helicopter crew reported
it came up from the sea about 35 miles out and climbed steadily, changing direction at some point.

If anyone has a link to the full video, I'd be much obliged.
