3. No. We should give the children handguns and let them
use the castle doctrine to shoot the smokers.

18. If we had a law saying smokers can not be within a certain distance of children
then I guess we can have laws saying "no one can drink any alcohol beverages within certain distance of a child" since that could be harmful to children (I have seen more families and lives destroyed from alcohol use than anything else) Or since fatty foods and sweets and sodas aren't good for kids maybe these things don't need to be within a certain distance of children. And any person that has any kind of odor to them (rather a good odor or bad odor) maybe there should be a law saying children can not be within a certain distance of these people ,after all some kids have allergies and strong odors (good or bad) can aggravate their allergies. Or maybe we can have a law saying that children can not be within a certain distance of odor and smog in the air, caused by big factories after all this is also harmful to children. Oh and don't forget guns, maybe there should be laws saying that guns can not be within a certain distance of children after all, if a child got a hold of a gun they could be hurt or killed. And maybe children don't need to be within a certain distance of someone cussing or saying bad things after all this also could be harmful to children's mental health. I could go on and on and on and on. This is suppose to be a free country, where we are suppose to have freedom of choice. But we have people badmouthing others that do things they don't do. Maybe the smoker doesn't do things that the bad mouther does but the smoker doesn't set around making the other person into a piece of crap because they do something the smoker doesn't do. This controlling crap needs to stop! You might not like to be around smokers but you might do things the smoker doesn't do and YOU MIGHT BE THE NEXT ONE TREATED LIKE CRAP!

banning smoking within a certain distance of supercilious, self-righteous folks, m'self.

Honestly: what's the purpose of queries like this save to start a ruckus?

Questions like this divide the camp against itself. It's pure provocateurship.

6. And ban cars near kids as well, and have to have windows up in traffic
Can't have those exhaust fumes getting in.

And in CA it states on the windows of ambulances/busses/etc that the vehicle has chemicals in it known to cause cancer, so no riding in those things either.

8. I voted no in the poll, but a law actually wouldn't be so bad.
The last thing I want to deal with when stepping out for a smoke is some little rugrat running around giving me a headache!

(I'm kidding about supporting a law) Jesus, just take all of us out and shoot us, why don't you? :eyes:

9. So what happens when
a smoker presumes he/she is 10 miles from a child, when, all of a sudden - a mini van pulls up and ten little kids come running up and holler - "Grandpa give me a hug"?

Who gets arrested?

This is just plain silly. Common sense should rule. Smokers should try to stay away from children and the children should stop trying to bum cigarettes.

21. Hell let's teach the kiddies to hate Grandpa since he's a smoker
It's ok to have the kids around alcohol, guns, chemicals in our water and air, bad foods, violent sexual and vulgar music and movies and tv shows but let keep the kiddies away from Grandpa because he is a very bad person (He is a smoker)

10. Nobody should be allowed to subject other people to their second hand smoke.
I fully support everyone's right to smoke, so long as I do not end up smelling or inhaling the disgusting byproduct of their habit. After all, I enjoy a beer on occasion but I don't go spraying urine around afterwards.

16. We should ban cars so that children aren't exposed to their emissions
because, let's face it, car culture is the biggest offender.

maybe we should arrest all parents who move to the suburbs.

Charles Harper,
R.J. Reynolds Chairman

"If children don't like to be in a smoky room, they'll leave." When asked by a shareholder about infants, who can't leave a smoky room, Harper stated, "At some point, they begin to crawl."

You know, every block or so.

And that would provide many jobs for spit bucket cleaners!

37. Well, at one time, spittoons were a common sight in courthouses
Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 04:28 PM by MineralMan
and other government buildings, along with private businesses. So, perhaps you're correct.

Here's an official spittoon, in a Chicago courtroom in 1910...only a hundred years ago.

From the Wikipedia article on "spittoons":

"Each Justice on the United States Supreme Court has a spittoon next to his or her seat in the courtroom. The last time the spittoon was used for its customary purpose was in the early 20th century.<3>"

And there you have it. The government does issue spittoons.

40. Can I get a law banning children under the age of 10 from being in public places? Also from being
allowed to be housed in any "non-family" building where, perhaps, none of the other residents want to listen to them screaming and shrieking and carrying on? I propose that separate housing areas, five miles or so distance from normal housing should be enough to dampen the noise (and odors), be required of anyone living with a child. I think children should be kept in quarantine until they're old enough (ten) to reliably behave in public and I'd prefer to see solid public transportation implemented than adults being forced to resign their liberty to tyranny of idiots.
