SAVE US FROM THE BIG BLACK GOVERNMENT! There is such a huge element of racism to the teabaggers.

15. From the teabaggers point of view it was the Govt that caused those things.
Just tune into AM radio or Fox and you'll hear someone blame these things on too much Govt interference and regulation.

Idiots. They are all idiots, and the really evil ones in the party, manipulate them so easily that it would be comical if it were not so scary.
They are human lemmings, diving off the side of the cliff without giving a moment's thought to what they will be landing in.

33. Tea baggers are the brown shirts. and within the next two years they will be squashed by the SS.
I figure that by 2012, the Republican "regulars" will call out KKKarl Rove and his SS troops to clean up the TeaBagging brown shirts. Then the regular Republicans, like Jeb Bush, will ride in on their white horses and be welcomed by the American people to save the day.

34. Well, but *NONE* of those situations were laissez-faire hands-off government
Edited on Mon Nov-08-10 03:27 PM by Recursion
In all three of those cases, a government entity was actually enabling the corporation in question.

I know teabaggers aren't entirely liberatrians, but the actual libertarians I know keep making that point: none of these could have happened if government were not powerful and ubiquitous enough to help one corporation or industry over another.

doing their jobs would not have happened if there were no regulatory systems.

Got it.

41. Then what, pray, are you talking about?
"*NONE* of those situations were laissez-faire hands-off government"

- IOW, there WERE government agencies which had oversight.

"In all three of those cases, a government entity was actually enabling the corporation in question."

- IOW, those agencies were not doing their jobs.

"none of these could have happened if government were not powerful and ubiquitous enough to help one corporation or industry over another."

- IOW, the agencies are too powerful and prone to corruption; therefore, they should be weaker and smaller, i.e., reduce government oversight.

Your words, not mine.

Typical libertarian answer. Bullshit, but typical.

42. Whatever
This is not the gilded age. The problem is not "government is not strong enough" but rather "government is too captured by the groups it is supposed to be regulating". If I thought government could not be de-captured, I would be a libertarian. I don't, so I'm not. But I resist the notion that "more" vs. "less" government is the problem.

you deny being a libertarian.

That does not necessarily make you a libertarian, of course. Contrarian might be more apt.

37. you can't fix stupid.
The newly elected republicans are tripping all over each other in an all out reversal of their election promises. Rand Paul now is ok with earmarks and long as they are reviewed in the open. Apparently they must be cheaper if they are done in open meetings. So if it cost 100 million to build a new fighter jet behind closed doors. Can we build the same fighter jet for say 10 million if the earmark is pass in the open?

This must be part of the republican deficit reduction plan that they are not talking about. Taking the earmarks as long as they are passed in the open. Apparently though some magic accounting and witchcraft the costs go down and the deficit is lowered. Saving the country at the same time they continue to bring home the pork.

The teabaggers have been lie to and used. When, if ever, will they realize it. Sadly, probably never as long as the sports channel is up and running and Palin's new reality show keeps showing them their adored Sarah playing in the snow and talking about them their freedoms.

Stupid, stupid people.
