Cantor: If Pelosi stays, then Dems don't get it
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Republican leader says that if Democrats keep Rep. Nancy Pelosi as their party chief in the House, then "it's almost as if they didn't get the message."

Republicans dumped Democrats from their majority in Tuesday's elections - and that means Pelosi won't be speaker in the new Congress next year.

Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor, who's in line to be the No. 2 House Republican, says GOP lawmakers aren't willing to work with President Barack Obama on what Cantor calls an "expansive, liberal agenda" the White House has pushed for two years.

Cantor tells "Fox News Sunday" that the Republican-led House will cut spending and will force fiscal discipline.

Doing the opposite of whatever they demand is probably a decent strategy
It might not be the perfect strategy, but it is probably better than random chance.

They say they want Pelosi out? Good enough for me. She stays.

they are whining about this time.

2. This jackass says they will cut spending and force fiscal discipline?
Oh sure they will.

Just like they did all 8 years of the bushbot regime?

Disgusting.

And I hope Nancy stays on as Minority leader. She deserves it, and she'd be damned good at it, too.

9. My reply to this guy is, "Kiss our ass, WE select OUR leaders"....,however,
I don't think Pelosi should remain in a leadership position and here is why: everyone who follows politics knows that often times perception is reality and unfortunately, the past four years have not been very good perception wise to her and she is sort of lightning rod right now. Though, I don't think she should resign from the House.

I think Hoyer should step back, too. Clyburn deserves to keep his spot and has done a good job in the media when on the talking head shows.

33. Nancy has ALWAYS been a lightning rod...........
and always will be. Remember "San Francisco Nan"? I heard that LONG before she became SOTH.

As others have said, if Cantor's against her, I'm FOR her. No questions and no hesitations.

Look, what they WANT is the left to go back into the Reagan mode and STOP BEING AN ALTERNATIVE VOICE TO THEIR LAMEBRAIN IDEAS! In other words STFU and "compromise" by voting for a RW agenda. I HOPE we don't do that. If we do, I'm voting Socialist or Green for the rest of my life. And that's from a yellow dog Democrat.

12. Of course they want Pelosi out because she had the
guts to oppose them. She pushed the Health Bill the senate hacked it up. She pushed the financial bill, the senate hacked it up. The republicans know she AIN'T GONNA LET UP ON THEM. That's why they don't want her in. And I hope to hell she continues to kick republican ass. I wish somebody some where gets the most incriminating and embarrassing crap on Cantor there ever was.

I think we should all email the attorney general of Virginia and start with why having they arrested the person who tried to blow up one of the Democratic representatives house. Aren't they suppose to serve ALL THE PEOPLE IN THEIR STATE.

21. funny
. . . how the 'doesn't get it' argument is also the mantra from critics on the left.

I have to agree with the poster above who says that anything that pisses off republicans is a good thing. Fuck the republican voter who would consciously put a Cantor back in power. They're a lost cause.

who cares what he thinks? Listen up, Eric, if we want your opinion we'll ask for it. Until then, STFU and go cheney yourself.

24. If she GOES we don't get it; this is S&M, B&D politics of the classic Republican type
Edited on Sun Nov-07-10 01:38 PM by PurityOfEssence
They're bullies, and they want NO compromise of any sort. It's inherent in conservatism: it's simply not a pluralist mindset. Liberals accept the differences of people and the right for different viewpoints to exist and be voiced. Conservatives have the one, true way, and anything else is a vicious assault on the very concept of civilization itself; by suffering non-conservatives to even exist, they feel they've gone beyond mere magnanimity. They literally can't understand why filth like us aren't satisfied with the merest of occasional toleration.

This is why they really feel the media is liberal: for a newscaster to talk without a spitting hatred about abortion or environmental regulation is PROOF to them that the person is a sworn enemy of mankind. It's really that bad.

Fuck the Republicans; they want the Democrats to curl up in the corner and be satisfied with an old bone, and they're OUTRAGED that there's any uppity bellyaching about it.

Cantor doesn't get it, but sadly many of the Democrats and certainly our President don't either: Conservatives aren't superior, and we don't have to ask their permission to exist. The very LAST thing we should do is not give Pelosi her due.

Obama was conveniently elsewhere during the health care struggle. He provided NO LEADERSHIP WHATSOEVER, and what little influence came from that end of town came from Emanuel bullying liberals into giving up fighting for something REAL. Obama's habitual need to be above the fray led him to make no risky statements or propose ANYTHING. He only stepped in at the end when his legacy was at stake. Nancy Pelosi shoved things through. She worked mightily and was undercut from above and behind, and then when the "victory" came, suddenly there was Mr. Frontman to take stage.

Dropping her now would be the stupidest thing we could do. It would show members of our party that we'll fuck anyone, no matter how stalwart they are, and we'll do it for the good graces of thugs who want us eradicated. Besides all that, she DESERVES to stay, and we'd be rotters to not accede to her wishes. Besides even all that, she's a reasonably good leader, and she's willing to take point and stand resolutely in their way. Yeah, she's also a bit of an appeasing Dem, but my expectations have been so lowered by the nauseating legacy of Clintonian triangulation that she passes for a vertebrate.
